Those of us who welcome recognition of the accurate history of Cyprus will be pleased to know that the London Daily Telegraph has this feature today:

Go to:

Hi Birdsong

try THIS url

http://tinyurl.com/lm8lzj

In your post, the "campaign-will-get-memorial-at-last.html" is missed off the link !:(

Now, HOW is a memorial to the fallen in a part of CY that the UK doesn't even recognise - that a UK official can't even officially "support" - have ANYTHING to do with "the accurate history of Cyprus"?

Whoops - Don't know how last bit of link got missed being highlighted

but.....here you go again......Devil's Advocate Incarnate.

The important fact is that these lads are at last being remembered, they died in Cyprus in the past and the past is history and that is accurate

Are you suggesting that 'any' GC, TC, UN or British Forces that were killed 'North' of the Green Line, does not have any involvement in the 'accurate history of Cyprus'?

Let's just forget them all Eh?

A very puzzled Rob.

Interesting article, but I think the comments after the article are well worth a read. They are written by a previous generation who were here at the time. Thats the real history.

Mark, message 3. I too find your last statement somewhat confusing. How can you say that even a mention of those that died in Cyprus does not have ANYTHING to do with "the accurate history of Cyprus"?

Hi Birdsong

re msg 4

This is not me being a "wind up merchant"

The "official" web site for this memorial

http://www.britishcyprusmemorial.org/

points out that it isn't "political", but lists a patron as one of my pro "TRNC" fellow countryman

Lots of ex-Service personnel, who fought EOKA, live quite happily and socialise with the old enemy

""but lists a patron as one of my pro "TRNC" fellow countryman""

I can't see that.

You have also stated you are not a "Pro TRNC Countryman", or of anywhere in Cyprus, as you have no property or family connections there.

I think you need a break!

I'm sorry, sixems, to seem to be constantly having a go at your postings, but my God! When you write something as absurd as you did in your post #3, my computer cranks up all by itself!

History doesn't exist or isn't accurate unless recognised by the UK or a UK official?! How on earth can anyone with even a rudimentary education arrive at such an outlandish conclusion?

"Please explain", in the words of an outlandish Australian ex-politician called Paulin Hanson....
