seems to me that the euro and insurance and petrol costs are having a bit of a result as shops and supermarkets seem dead with no big runs of trnc expats blocking the doors.

anyone else noticed this

I cant understand anyone going over to the south to buy furniture, kitchens or whatever, we should support the local community.

Question is, if the numbers of people going South from the North always exceed the numbers going North from the South, and presumably those numbers include those returning North, where do all those people who travel South & don't return go to?

If the numbers of people going South from the North always exceed the numbers going North from the South, and presumably those numbers include those returning North, where do all those people who travel South & don't return go to? Moreover, if there are more numbers going North than South would that mean that those going South are less in numbers than those going North? If they do not return from the North once there, are they deemed to be non returnable or do you use them in the figures for those going South as well. This could be a major problem in the calculations - do you agree?

Tell you what, how about no one goes shopping in the South for a whole week? That way we can say that no one is shopping in the South because.....(insert whatever reason suits).

The next week we can all rush South to see if anyone is actually shopping. Important that everyone visits all the major shops on this research (how about lunch at IKEA? meatballs very tasty, good value, just a thought). Important that no one buys anything (well, apart from a few essentials in M & S, Ikea etc.)

Now if no one goes South for a week, the figures must show that more people are coming North. Voila! Call the Press.

JohhnyLee,

quite agree with you.

And they should stop all those people going over to work in the South - disgusting that is!

Oh, hold on a minute, isn't that why the TRNC authorities were forced to open the crossing points in the first place? - to allow some TC to go and work in the south?

Blast! - Another fine theory up the spout!

Dear KC re msg 19

1/ it was a TC Doctor who wished to move freely around the island for work and personal reasons

2/ Turkey *tried* to bounce the ECHR case claiming it was the "TRNC"'s responsibility

Msg 16, been saying that for years, but mentioned it last week and was jumped on!

Its not been mentioned about al the Turkish Cypriots who work on the dark side. These people crossing 5 times a week will boost the numbers.

If everyone in the North quietly crossed the border one night, then in the morning they could all jump up & shout SURPRISE !!!!!!

Hi my boy, hows tricks with you then?

Dont like lobsters, dont know why you should even think I did!!! And LiDl oh how could I pos shop there!! (joking)

Agree with you regarding the folks shopping in the south, as my sister who frequents the south on holiday has said the same as youself, I believe it is the credit crunch just starting to hit home, plus the euro, and going into the E.U. The south will find it harder to sell the holidays as Spain, France Portugal are cheaper to get to re flights, so more to spend on holiday. Sis says that the shops have become to expensive, so shops are half filled with shoppers. Sis lives in GB and says she not going back to the South any more but will try countrys nearer to her airport. Have tried to get her to try NC, but she thinks Im going to be murdered every time I hol in the North!! Scary stories from the south!!! LOL x
