Back in a grey Scotland and just watched a programme called 'No Place Like Home?' Couple called Marion and Alan Stewart had to make a decision whether to stay in NC or return to the UK. On the programme they decided on the UK. Just want to know if they really left paradise or if they changed their mind. Just watching NC made me feel homesick!

Thanks for getting me up to date, I can understand Alan was worried about his health but know where I would rather be. Who knows next time I am over I might bump into them. Wish they had shown more of NC but the little they did show was a good advert. Wish I was there and mikelapta could we change the red for white please?

Greetings from Marion Stuart, still living in the hills of Malatya, one year later than when No Place Like Home was seen. Why am I still here - as Tom said - our overdraft would be bigger! Seriously, my husband has a British heart, but even he realises that we would have no life style at all in U.K. Much that was on the programme was not accurate. No work for me. The 'Magazine Editor' knew less than I do about writing and the media; the old folks home was £52,000 a year, not £15,600 and none of the friends who suggested we stay in N.Cyprus were given a mention. And there are people here who love me, and I am involved, and Alan follows me around happily, as much as his walking stick allows. Any other quesitons. Happy to answer. Thanks for the enquiry, and if you wish you can contribute to the Marion Stuart Face Lift Fund, now vital after that programme!

Hi Harita! Who are you hiding behind such a lovely name! hAVE I b ought you a coffee recently? Do I know you? And yes, you are right, we are back - have been since the programme finished last August - apart for a trip to Paris in November and a dinner in Canterbury. If someone gives me a mansion in Hampstead London, plus the chance to go to Covent Garden by Taxi once a week, Royal Albert Hall, Festival Hall, Barbican, Shakespeares Globe etc, etc, then I am off. Meanwhile, no real contest when tied down by pov erty and a great view of the Med.

Don't just bump into me, that could be painful. Marion Stuart is the name, and coffee drinking is the game! And who mentioned Aberystwyth. My grandchildren are there, and that is the place of great wind and rain, but fond memories. The programme couldn't take us to Wales which would be my first choice. Back to Lampeter and get a Doctorate and rust to death! Almost affordable. So, WHO is Mikelapta - not one of the fast growing plants. Oh yes - wherelse could I be an Ann Robinson non-look-alike and insult people in the name of charity? So when you escape the mists of the Scottiswh moors, look me up.

I have lost the thread of this. Who are Mike, Sandie, and who walks in Aber in the rain? But thanks to Flight Holidays for bringing this to my attention, and in spite of my needing a face lift and liposuction and maybe a soul transplant, I think the No Place Like Home did N.Cyprus proud. Wonderful shots to excite the traveller looking for history and sun, even though the south is trying tgo 'b' up Italians coming over here. Ah well, still got this week's words to get done for Cyprus Observer, - the day was spent seeing myself on TV and talking about it in the constant sunshine. No pool, and no fool either. Whatever I said a year ago is not practical a year later, and won't be, and even Alan knows that - so the decision we were going to make is THE v alid one - stay in N.Cyprus with some lovely people, lovely weather and hopes that our tomorrows will be better than our todays!

MarieB .. Not hiding behind any name .. Mine is HARry my wifes is rITA hence "harita" .. We were in Five Fingers the night the cameras followed you there .. We were invited to sit round a table with you & Alan, asking you both questions as to what brought you to the TRNC in the first place .. Could possibly been in the program if that bit was included .. Don't know .. Haven't seen but would like to ..

Hi Harry, Can't remember your face. Hope to show the programme here WHEN I get a DVD - maybe at Five Fingers! Will advertise it. As to what was shwon at Five Fingvers - minimal ! And that's an understatement! But, if ever you see me anywhere - do come up and introduce yourself and I can fill you in with any other details. One good thing out of this - I am getting to know even more people - can't be bad. Where do you live?

Marion I am so glad you have posted on here and that you are in fact enjoying your time still in North Cyprus. I watched it this morning as I do anything concerning NC (as we have a house out there but cant spend enough time in it yet). I was so sad that you chose the UK even though I understood the reasoning that you have been in my thoughts a lot suring the day and now I am smiling. My best wishes to you and your lovely husband Alan. Sheila

Thanks to 'Lilli' and Sheila and all the others who are being so lovingly warm to us and the feel good factor. I am , particularly interested that Lilli spoke of all the sad faces in Wales. I had an e mail from one of my old uni professors (who is the same age as I!) who said that Lampeter was a bit of a sad place now. Do you think it is all the rain? Wonderful old shops gone; the uni is suffering cut backs and so for all the probs here (we have property probs too!) life is for living, and one needs to seize the opportunityh to live to the full, wherever one is. So, whenever any of you are here, join me for a coffee, a laugh and share some hopes for all our tomorrows.

Thanks for the video link. Have tried to look it up and it says 'Not available at the moment. Problems' So what's new? Maybe it is because it is Cyprus, or maybe it is because so many people are watching that cyuberspace can't cope. But I will have another go tomorrow. Thanks a million Tom - I will pass it on to my friends. And now loads more people can watchit. Good stuff.

And maybe Tom understands that living as he does up north of Wales. I am off to bed now. Lovely lday full of lovely people with lovely thoughts. Can;t be bad, can it. We will see if I can watch TV on that link, but I have a strong suspicion that it is another one of those embargoes under which we live out here. goodnight, lovely people. |

Marion, thank you for getting in touch and so happy you are still in beautiful TRNC and living in your lovely traditional village house. Don't know why they seemed to think you and Alan would be happy in a retiral home! Think I may have even decided to get you that pill you were talking about. Don't know when I will manage back to NC, hopefully before the end of the year and I will watch out for you. Will look forward to that coffee!

O.K Boglefan. When you get here, ring me on mobile 0542 882 4313 - and anyone else who wants to meet over a cup of coffee. Don't normally give out personal details, but you are all such nice people. And when I get to Lampeter I want to meet Lilli's sister. Where I wonder is she in Lampeter? Mind you I haven't been there for about 13 years, so the memory is fading, but it is a small place. Pob bendith arnoch chi, Lilli, and to Boglefan I say 'Every blessing.' Go well

Hi Just read this thread & watched the programme. I too would have been very disappointed at you choosing the UK over TRNC but having read this thread fist it was rather like having read the 'book' then seeing the film! My husband & I are in the throws of deciding whether to sell up completely and end our days in glorious Northern Cyprus. If it was up to me we'd be there already but he has a few issues (mainly to do with healthcare) and wants to keep a 'bolt hole' in UK, this would leave us with considerably less dosh to live on so I say lets just burn the boat and go! We have a lovely little house up in Baspinar, I absolutely love my time there and always fell like I'm 'coming home' when I arrive in N Cyprus. Be interested to know what others think - we are mid fifties - should we just sell up and relax in the sun? or carry on in the rain till we're too old to make such a big move? Maggie

Dear Maggie, Have we met, I wonder? Never mind if we haven't, I hope that we do soon. Age is a state of mind, so don't bother mentioning your age, what does matter is how you want to live? Who do you want around you? What lifestyle grabs your heart? If you leave U.K - what will you miss? I know another couple here who were torn on leavcingv and going back to U.K because of health reasons, but they have discovered affordable care here - no travel hassle to get it, and find that the weather and the people contribute more to their health than any NHS system. Why not keep a bolt hole inU.K - exsc\ept that makes it easier to run away - something we don't have - and try living here for two years before deciding whether it is for ever. You have to go through the honeymoon period followed by the 'warts' period and then finding your own middle road! Takes a good couple of years. Don't rust to death; don't die of boredom - LIVE, butg just one thing...... (see nexdt page)

cont..... Maybe Baspinar is just a bit too high up. A couple who lived there before and a husband who had a stroke, found that their lives changed for the better when they moved into town. Nothing is fixed in stone - even life itself,, but don't let fear of the future rule what you do. Follow your heart and believe that at every crossroad that comes, there is a proper turn for you to take! Always happy to chat to help you make up your mind. What does everyone else think????

So is Nurse Awful really the opposite of her name, and is Boglefan more of a rushing wind? These B,log boards are most confusing, but keep the imagination firing at full power! Perhaps it is best that way, as a little intrigue fires one up for the day. And of course Lovely Lilli has the talent of being one of the world's 'encouragers' and one doesn't need imaginatin to see that - it is obvious. Go well, all of you,

MarieB Watched the programme & read all your comments here. It makes it sound like a TV 'Unreality' Show! I have a nephew who had a property 'looked at' on one of these 'Location' property shows. What ended up being transmitted was totally at odds to what was actually being said at the time! p.s. I think you are getting enough material here to sell a good story to a UK National Paper! Best wishes. Rob

Hi Marie B, Nurseawful is the opposite of her name although I think the nick-name was down to me when we worked together (nuff said). She is now more my sister than my friend and thank God for Skype for letting us keep in touch on a more than regular basis. My nickname is one you can do a little research on. There is a scottish folk writer/singer who now stays in Austrailia named Eric Bogle and whenever I visit Nurseawful's other half and I have a few wines and play and sing along with him (think it's called murdering the song!) but we enjoy it. Interested to find out how much info you can get on him. Kept a note of your number and look forward to that coffee. Irene

To Rob, I lsay 'I am working on it - I need the money!"' and also I agree with all you say aboutg 'unreality' and that is why I have told everyone that the programe was 'entertainment'. and I think I made a few folk laugh and that is important. and to Irene I ask 'Where in wonderful Oz - which is where I would return given half a chance.' At the moment I have NO c\hances Look forward to catching up with you all.

Dear Sufrfolk I agree with you that N.Cyprus was in a good light! And that is why I hope it might act as a bit of an ambassador! We did meet some hassle going over the border at people tryingt to get political, but as our director/producer/cameraman said 'This is nothing political.' but we were 'challengede' by some folk. We all make choices and wherever one lives there can be problems. It is a quesiton of balance, isn't it? Good luck to you if you are aiming at making a life here. Personally I have strong feelings about the future of this place, but I am not in politics, so will just wait and see. I like the low crime rate, the weather, some wonderful people, but of course the challenges are sometimes a bit much - but everywhere can be the same. Good luck to you!

Especially after a few wines ect. and encouragement in the safety of his own palatial mansion he fair belts it ooot. BOGLE - An evil gnome but mostly cruel to murderers and thieves.
