Alan, It was on at 10:30AM this morning on ITV. Very sad, the husband had DVT and they decided to return to the UK as within 2 years he would not be mobile and unable to use Aircrafts etc. He wanted to return but the wife did not.

Thanks everyone. The original scheduled time was 8 pm UK time I thought. Nevermind, I can get it on ITV catchup on my PC. Thanks for advising me of the tone of the program, Tiggy. I had planned to watch it with a glass or three of wine but perhaps coffee will be more appropriate under the circumstances.

Sorry guys, the Cyprus Today gave the wrong time. The programme was meant to be shown last November and then.............................and so, yes it was 10.30a.m. today. Interesting how people read the programme.Alan had three DVT's but hasn't got one now. He has a British heart and wants to return to U.K, but I knew and he now acknowledges that there is nothing for us penniless pensioners in U.K. Where could we live; what could we do; where do we go; what invfolvement and with whom and where? The programme spoke of 'options' but the so called magazine editor I saw knew nothing about Media and was a retired exhibition worker who started a web page to tell over 50 years old how to live. I asked if I could write for her and she said 'We have no money'. We were shown an Old Fok';s home which is actually £1000 a week, NOT the £15,600 a year they said. And lots of other things, but I reckon the programme showed N.Cyprus as a pretty O.K. place. Ooops, run out of space. Anyone any ques

If anyone wants a picture of me, look in Cyprus Observer, or last mid-week's Cyprus Today when I had a write up of the night I played 'Ann Robinson' in The Weakest Link.' Now where could I do that in U.K? And one other point. There were 30 programmes of ex pats around the world. Today'/s programme was of Alan and Marion Stuart of N.Cyprus. Others were Canary Islands, Australia etc, etc. anything else you want to know? Happy to answer questions. And interesting how people 'read' the programme. Thanks for watching. And as I have said before the Marion Make Over Fjund is now open to pay for the face lift, tum flattener and general liposuction! Thanks in advance for all donations.

You can watch the programme on your computer http://www.itv.com/ITVPlayer/Video/default.html?ViewType=5&Filter=46274 My take, for what it's worth, was that NC was a side issue other than on the health service availability, which wasn't explored other than the NHS is free in the UK. It came across that it was really all about Marie, that she was making the decision despite her husbands real wish to return to the UK. Despite Marie agreeing to return for the sake of her husband at the conclusion, it doesn't surprise me that they are still in NC. I got the impression that Marie was not going to return and was just demonstrating a willingness to consider it for the sake of her husband and the programme.

Thank you to Lilli - I owe you ! As to Hector - yea, you are kinda right. It was a last minute taking of the British flag. Even Alan recognised that returning to U.K was a no-no. And the Health Service - forget it. All our friends say 'don't bother - it is collapsing'. At the end of the day, many people leave here for fear and finance. Fear is negative, and currently so is our finance. And of course, if Alan really wanted to return to U.K, I am not stopping him putting the house on the market; face people tramping through it;' constant disappointment; and he can get the shippers in and organise the move! Aren't Inasty> But I did it when we movede from Australia because ofr his health problems with DVT. Not keen to do it again! Truth is, I think he is happy here! Honestly! Maybe we should all get together in Cafe Dukkan and discuss 'Tio go or not to go, that is the question' - any takers?

I watched this programme with great interest. No politics a few unusual things said ny the interviewer who really wound me up.the balance of the programme is whether the couple should stay in N.C or come back to England. The problem here is alans health hence the programme To help them decide she took Alan and Marion Stuart to view some properties in England. A cottage with the tightest staircase that Alun struggled to get down " she said you will only have to do it twice a day" How ridiculous why not a bungalow. She showed them an old peoples home whilst it maybe nice it may suit them in another 20 years when they catch the other residents up in age. I am unsure of the medical treatment alan could expect in N.C That was the obvoius big factor here. But for the poorly thought out parts I watched and really enjoyed the programme about Alan and Marion who came across as a really nice couple

Dear Girne 29 It is interesting how people 'hear' c\onversations, 'read' programmes and see things that don't exist. The whole truth about Alan and his DVT is: He has had three, one 'cured' in Australia and two 'cured here by a new French drug which is expensive. When he flies (and it is more risky for him than others) he takes 'Rat Poison' (Warfarin) injections for days before he flies, after and then repeats it for the return. As a result his blood seems constantly thin and he now feels the cold more than ever. Medical facilities in N.Cyprus are as good as any, and don't forget that no doctor here wants to make a mistake, or they won't have any patients! Being in a small placec has its benefits. Of course, one has to pay, but it is affordable even to pensioners. So, I am now going on to another 'reply to explain just WHY Alan was given the medical once over.

Part 2 to Girne 29. Alan could do with a hip replacement and that is why his mobility is getting worse. He also has a problem with knee caps and ankles (all that football and referreeing have taken its toll) and he was meant to see a specialist in Harley Street. Instead he was taken to a BUPA man, who, as you can see in the programme, really said nothing about the main issue. How risky it is for Alan to have anoperation on his hip!? He advised Alan against it, but that is NOT shown in the programme. As I said before, Alan may fly if he is sensible and takes medication, but for him to regain mobility he could with with an op or two (if we can find the money - and it is cheaper in N.C and there are some wonderful surgeons! - really) but the BUPA bloke in U.K just frightened the life out of him in terms of spelling out risks! THAT was what the medical stuff was all about. Like many other aspects of the program me, this was NOT explained. - oops, part 3 coming up.

Part 3. When I get around to showing the DVD here later in the year, I am hoping to answer anyquestions that may arise from the programme, so help those who are not sure about life here in the TRNC . I am not an expert, but I have learned a lot since coming here - and even more about making TV programmes! Perhaps I should volunteer to be a Catherine Gee, who did try to trip me up, asking if it was all about money! I am concerned about our futures and yes, I maybe the vocal one, but I am the 'doer' in the family, and love does NOT always find the way that others owuld like. Hope that has helped. Sorry it took so long. Brevity isw not my greatest talent.

Marion, I'm so glad to have seen the programme and read all the posts about it on this and the other thread - I now feel 'inspired' to make the permanent move over there a reality! My 'ole man', like yours I think, has a 'British heart' but men don't always know what's good for them and have to be gently pointed in the right direction sometimes. My mission now is to persuade him that we will be healthier, wealthier & happier in Northern Cyprus than in the cold, wet, dreary UK. We are coming out on 22nd August for 10 weeks (the longest stay so far) and hopefully, he will have such a lovely time we will be able to go stick up the 'For Sale' board & order the container (fingers crossed). Would love to meet up for that coffee when I get there, I've put your number in my wee book! Maggie xx

Yes, dear Boglefan, I feel that the programme was not in vain. It seems to have helped a couple of people already , so that makes my heart sing! The fact that my husband can't have his own way, is almost immaterial is good has otherwise come out of it. Alan would love to go to U.K - but no money and no move! Anyway, what would I do with myself if I could not go to Cafe Dukkan every day and drink coffee with some of the nicest people in the world? And that must include Maggie, Bernie and Girne 29. Blessings to one and all. M
