If I owned a business in TRNC...

and if I or my business would be damaged by unfounded, malicious attacks on this board...

by anonymous posters...

I would instruct my TRNC lawyer to sue the owner of this site.

I bet the owner of this site would then find a way to protect honest businesses from being damaged by anonymous cowards, who lie about their name, occupation etc and "opt to hide their email address".

* Admins, this is hypothetical and only meant to stimulate a debate.

Not a sensible path forward, I can't find an Advocate to sue another, not even the Bar Council will take action even with blatant proof of serious malpractice! They're all at it. Shoot them all!

DC I thought you did own a business in TRNC, or is that another Dutch Crusader, multiple personalities maybe.

Or maybe it isn't a business you run, just a money making hobby.

DC this isn't an attack on you personally, it's just to stimulate a debate.

ps better make sure my e-mail address isn't hidden.

You wrote to me darling DC, oh bliss, bliss bliss, nope dont want to debate with someone with a problem, as I have said you would never be a business man DC you just aint got the 'bottle', just a few words and no action!!

To have a business it takes stamina and tenacity, which most reporters dont have, as they just hang around and 'hope' for a story. lol xxxxx

Have to say I have met a few Dutch business men and they were very clever. Sad when some one gets less of the old grey matter isnt it. lol xx

As a business owner I would say ignore the bad 'press' what can you sue for? loss of business? how can you prove what losses you sustain from such bad 'press' ? I for one would complain to the owners if I had a gripe not mouth off on a public forum = that is in my mind just sheer bloody minded and petty and those that shout out loud from behind an anonymous computer are nothing but cowards in my humble opinion of course x

Lilli if you have been dealing with customers for 40 odd years, and keep every one happy you know you have made it. First rule of any business is the customers are always right even if you know darn well that they are wrong.

Never slag off any one because you dont know who they talk to, or who they may be. They pays 'yer money' as they say, well enough said on that.

Lilli I have no doupt that you 'give all' to your business, most women are the back bone of any partnership.

I infact do wish you well, lol

Message 26 - well, there's a fine lesson in back-peddling, if ever I've heard it!

You've tried to undermine Guido's (please note spelling) big time, and now, as you've done before, you are

a...licking. Of course, you've done this before, haven't you?

I must say, I particularly liked the inference (you may have to look it up) that you felt you "looked the part" when asking the price of lobster. You then went on to say that Guido (again, please note spelling) was "talking to some (what was it, tarty types) of women".

You may well 'look the type' but,I can assure you, you certainly do not "sound" the type.

In my opinion, there are three main differences between posting a comment on a forum and publishing a story in another media (such as a newspaper.)

1. I understand, that normal reporting procedure in most media(s) (Hans, please correct me if I am wrong) would be to allow the company (or, the subject of the story) to give their comments and then, to add them to 'the story' on (initial) publication.

This doesn't happen on this (and other) forums. The post is published for everyone to see, without any comment from the subject of the post, who is then, forced to defend themselves in the face of (maybe) unsubstantited allegations.

2. For fear of of shouts of "harassment," and large libel damages, Without extremely good proof or justification, the editor of a newspaper (again Hans, please correct me if I am wrong) would not allow a reporter to (repeatedly) report stories about one company/individual.

On this and other forums, certain "characters" repeatedly harass other members and with no editor, (other than the owner/mods,) there is no system in place to "check" this type of thing. Having said that, I know that the owner and the mods work very hard to keep a "check" on this type of thing and that certain individuals have been banned many times. The problem is that they simply return (under another name) and take up where they left off.

3. In other media, the writer has to print their name (whether it is their "real" name or, not doesn't matter) but their "real" identity is known to the publisher who, through the editor, keeps a check on the "writers." They certainly would not be allowed to use the media to defame someone because of a grudge, vendetta, jealousy or, because they hadn't "got their own way" in a previous "dealing" with someone.

On this and other forums unfortunately, this sort of thing goes on everyday.

The two main points here are, anonimity and loss of reputation/business.

I once posted a picture and commentary regarding a local company who had allegedly sabotaged a new client's internet connection by cutting the cabling of their new supplier. Within the commentary, I commented as one of the principles of the "competitor" whose cable had been cut. I was identified as a competitor and people can make up their own minds and judgement. A local newspaper took up the story and the company received some publicity. Whether I would bother to do that today would be determined by my "motivation."

Reading some of the comments on here, I have to agree with Hans. Certain Members use this board simply, as a tool to "harass" on a personal level, whether this is acceptable practice in this media (if the kitchen is too hot etc.) is debatable and I suppose boils down to the "harassers" *personal morals*

I have heard it said (if the kitchen is too hot etc.) and I agree (where the individuals and motivation have been identified) but it should not be allowed where it is "anonymous" and part of a "vendetta" against a business. Furthermore, where multiple personalities are posting the same type of thing about the same people or, where members are working in partnership with each other to damage someone's reputation. It is just not accpetable

My personal experience is that the owner and mod's do take note of what is being posted and are aware of, and banned certain individuals from posting and that they do implement a policy of low tolerance to this type of thing, but in certain cases, the damage may have already been done.

There may be the rewards from advertisers and an opportunity to further oneself, but running a forum is not easy and comes with responsibility. The owner and mod's are under a lot of pressure to make sure that this type of thing doesn't go on.

Jeannie, I love a good quiz. I've been up and down this posting trying to work out who you're aiming at. msg 26 was by dizzycows, is she the a...licker? Only reference to "Guido's" is by DC, and he spells it the same as you do.

Can't find anyone claiming that they "looked the part" when asking about the price of lobsters.

Can't find a mention of "tarty women" either.

Will have to give in and move on.

Wish it'd stop raining so I could go for a walk. Sad innit

Brinsley, my upbringing.......

Where I grew up near Wigan, the housing was terrible, the walls were so thin, one day, we opened the oven door and the next door neighbour was dipping his bread in our gravy.

Lazy! - one of our neighbour's insurance stamps was worth more than a penny black!

I arrived late at school one Monday morning, the teacher asked me why, I said, "sorry miss, my Dad was burned this morning." She said, "not seriously, I hope," "oh yes!" I replied, "they don't mess about down the crematorium."

My mother was a lovely lady but big. It didn't matter where you sat in the room, you were always sat next to her.

When I asked my father-in-law whether there was a dowry if I married his daughter, he promised me, three acres and a cow, I'm still waiting for the three acres.

Obviously not, but some of the time, certain issues have to be addressed seriously.

They do a woman's version now you know, it's called "Niagra"

I went to the Doctors with sunburn and he gave me a Viagra tablet. I said "I didn't know that Viagra cured sunburn "it doesn't" he said, "but it will keep the sheets off your legs tonight!"

Hi minertor, think perhaps jeannie is jumping to conclusions, old saying 2+2 makes 9 or whatever! I have no axe to grind with Lilli or any one on this forum, just commented about service that we had recieved and that we would not be going back to that cafe/restaurant! If folks want to get all 'hand up their bum' stance so be it. Did not name the eating place, and I will praise any one that offers money for value, it is up to that business IF they think it is their premises to be a little sharper. lol

PS sorry for the lecture, but been in the retail business for yonks. (yonks to long)

Just for fun,...

Why don't you open a 'Virtual' Business on here, choose whatever you want,... tell us all about it,....

Wait for the 'Virtual' abuse and 'Virtual' malicious attacks.

Instruct your 'Virtual' Lawyer to Prosecute.

Let's see who ends up in 'Virtual' Court with you,...

There seem to be at least a couple of female posters who you could see as Defence Councel. Littlenige could be your errant,.. sorry,.. errand delivery driver,...

This could be as fun as 'Mornington Crescent',... the game could run & run!
