Hi Nic

Could you tell me how many units you used as I have just read mine and I have used so far 552 units

and electric man hasnt been to read meter yet, so mine could be even higher,

Thats a bloody lot for a month especially with all the power cuts we have had, who said its cheaper in the TRNC never paid that sort of money a month in the UK

re msg 1 I would get that checked out that can't be right, so expensive! We are quite careful admittedly and try not to have the a/c on as little as possible as it gives me a sore throat and we both agree it's bad for you etc but our monthly electric bills have never even gone over 60ytl! If you are careful even with small things like not boiling the kettle just for one cup of tea etc or switching off the laptop when not using it and plug switches off etc you will be amazed at how much you can save, every little helps ;0)

Nick I agree with NatAless for two people on normal electric rates you should be able to manage on 50-60 YTL per month. Some extra savings tips are only use gas cooktop for boiling the kettles and making toast etc as it works out cheaper than electric and replace some or all of your light globes to compact fluorescent ones.

One item we don't have to run however is a pool pump which I believe adds a lot to your bills.

Hello all,

Can anyone give me the Kibtek telephone number for the Iskele region or main Tel No for TRNC, also the e-mail address and a person's name that may speak English if anyone has been in touch with the company?

I need to find out about connection and costs etc. I would be most grateful for any help that members can give me.

Since moving back to the UK our electric usage has plummeted. Whilst in the TRNC we used between 900 and 1000 units a month, here in the UK we use 270 to 300. And with cost per unit being on a par with the TRNC we are saving £80 a month. But then again we don't have a pool and air conditioning, which is where the other £80 really went.

How on earth do you get an Electric bill for 50/60ytl a Month

My lowest since being here is around 90ytl but my highest was 400ytl now I have used 552 units so far this month and it hasnt been read yet. My a/c goes on around 6pm with this heat for a few hours but I do admit to having it on for a few hours during the night, how on earth do you cool your place down, with all your cut backs ie using the stove for boiling the kettle,

I expect it to be around £120 this month cant manage without a/c but will cut back on anything else.

N.N. wish we could get an electric bill, had none since the day we moved in, Feb 14th this year, Try generator costs, cost us about 20 lira per day for about four hours. I don,t think we will ever take electricity for granted again , and it,s not really expensive when you workout what you get for your money. Also I think you would have a suprise if you went back to the UK. You should see our Restaurant gas and electricity bills in England they are crippling, and like the other guy mentioned, aircon and pool, these are luxuries you probably wouldn,t have In UK. There is just one thing though, are you still letting G.M.s missus charge that big pink thing up, I think you said she used it on her bad back, that would take a few watts.

Hi, Sheila,

We used 788 units and our bill was 319.06tl.

They have changed the amount of units you can have in each price band, check your bill when it comes,

49.53 tl for last month. I don't use aircon, just floor fans and don't have that expat must have, a pool. Keeping fit at the gym most days helps me to adjust to the heat as does laying off the booze for most of the time.

Thanks again for the info, will check the bill when it comes in.

Still cant understand how they get a bill for 50/60ytl ??? strange

I'd like to see the calibration certificate for the meter that registers only 60tl a month.

Maybe theirs is right and our meters havn't been calibrated correctly?

I agree Sheila, How does anyone keep the electric down to 50 or 60 lira a month especially in the summer, un less they are at work all day and out all evening. I am very careful and don't have a pool and was really pleased when last month was only 110 lira This month will be a bit more as it's so hot I have to have the fan on more and the air con for an hour or two at night.

Hi, the readings are:-

242 @ 0.300000

242 @ 0.350000

242 @ 0.380000

? @ 0.500000

last month was 283 in each band, they have reduced how many units in each band so electricity is costing us more, without saying the electric has gone up.

hope this helps

thanks marilyn

I should expect a bill for around the 400ytl mark, wow what you have to pay to stay cool.

Even if you use floor fans which I have also, after about 15mins you circulate the hot air, must have a/c on

Hi

We don't usually use the airconditioning at all. I usually open the place up except on the side the sun is on (most of the time there is a breeze from one direction or another) and use electric fans which I find is usually enough. I am home most of the time during the day. Fans help use your bodys natural cooling system and are very cheap to run.

Also drink plenty of cold water etc, and use the pool etc for short periods and you soon get used to it.

After many years of working in airconditioned offices I hate the artificial and often unhealthy atmosphere it produces and don't like being in it for long periods.

norma jean,

The reason why the number of 'units' in each band varies is not because they've found a 'back-door' way to ROB you, it's simply that the number of days between meter readings is different.

The 'allowance' is calculated on the basis of 8 and a third units per day, so if it's February, and a 28 day month, then you would expect 8.333 x 28 = 233 units in each charge band, for July with 31 days, you will normally get 8.333 x 31 = 258 units at each rate.

There is some variation in the period caused by weekends, holidays etc. - the reading in December is usually early, resulting in a longer period for the January reading, and so on.

Hope this helps,

Keith.

Hi! It's true we just got our new bill & it was 53ytl! I was a bit worried because we have been using the air con a bit in the bedroom but in the living room all the windows & balcony door are left open day & night & we get a good breeze, during the day we leave all the curtains closed to not let the sun in to heat up all the house, most of the eve. we are on the balcony or terrace (eating, reading, talking etc) when we are too hot we get into the pool even just to cool down! I only do the washing if there is a big load to do or my partner needs shirts for work & do the washing in the eve. (think it's cheaper then), I do cook quite a lot & drink a lot of tea so boil the kettle often but we try to be as careful as possible, as I said before every little helps & with the extra money we save we can have treats like meals out etc! We have always paid betwn

40-50ytl our neighbours do pay a bit more but we just try to be careful then it soon becomes a habit,we live in Doğanköy, Girne.

PS I agree with Aussie msg 22 a/c is really not good for you and am not just saying that because it's expensive to run, it gives me a really sore throat & if I have just eaten it blocks my digestion and gives me tummy ache. Everything in moderation though, I do use it too sometimes, but I think some people get 'addicted' as it's so hot when you turn it off you think the room is all hot again but open all the windows & doors and you get a much nicer healthier breeze.

Well I dont know how you all kept it so low as my bill has just arrived and I have used 681 units

grand total 264.96ytl was expecting around 300ytl I didnt think that was too bad with this heat and having a/c on I am not going to skimp with things like electric and be uncomfortable.

so how come some get a 50/60ytl Bill doesnt make sense

I agree Nat, as i have windows/doors open blinds down all down, but after 4pm thats it I'm hot so the a/c goes on, I didnt work all my life to feel uncomfortable now.

Nat

Count yourself lucky mine has just been read and it was 681 units = 264.96ytl I was expecting it to be around 300ytl so wasnt surprised, how people get away with 50/60ytl at this time of the year I dont know

During the day the windows/doors are open blinds down, but come 4/5pm the a/c goes on I have not worked all my life to skimp now and be uncomfortable in my apt. come the end of September then we can cut back.

God how you survive with just fans i dont know. I find this heat in July/August unbearable so to be comfortable I make my apt cool. I know its not healthy but nor is being too hot and you are right when you turn it off it does seem very hot

Cant wait to have the problem of electricity bills. Generator for few hours a day so expensive. Without electricity, we dont get a choice of whether to put on air con. Our units are now three years old with a three year guarantee, never been used, so may or may not work anyway!! Pool sits there still empty.....apart from now, can go for a paddle after yesterdays rain....yippee!!
