It's a bit like the weather forecast.....says everything but tells you nothing... "It will start cool ,maybe warming up later with clear skies but some cloud cover , mainly dry with some sunshine but chances of showers"

Paul, a key part of the article ....... The promise made by EU foreign ministers before the referendums to end the isolation of the Turkish Cypriots and establish direct trade with the north remains unfulfilled. In addition, an opinion poll released last week showed almost three quarters of Greek Cypriots believe the talks will ultimately fail. Sort the first item out and the second will be a "definate talks will fail", I guess the reason isolation is still in place is because the EU have no balls !

newlad message 1/link: "in the security and guarantees chapter there was complete disagreement" downer is frank about the central problem, but why is this portentious-sounding but largely-irrelevant-to-expats-issue really so very critical? well it is theoretically possible to cobble a compromise together on the lands and property question about which some cyprus 44 contributors say they wait even at this late stage with baited breath, (turning blue in the face no doubt guys, you now have my full permission to inhale again) but think scrapping the security guarantee, and think yugoslav war and remember the srebenica massacre with dutch soldiers calmly looking on ...that's why solving this issue is probably asking too much of "negociations" as this is still called where there was never any concensus roughed out prior (!) and instead we kinda "haggle as we go" while greek cypriots can only feel nowt but irritation that they are still not trusted after all these years
