I have heard again about an amnesty on imported cars.Is this true.Had phone call today but a bit confused. It will be good news for me as my car has been covered up for a year as the tax was more than i paid for the car.If anybody can post more information it would be appreciated.

Hi cockneydave, I got my import licence on Wednesday but when I went to customs to pay the duty yesterday they said that there had been a mistake with the new rules and they couldn't process it until Monday. They had already calculated a much lower figure than I was first given 10 months ago but now I'm not sure what I will pay.

Not sure what they mean by 'amnesty' as I still had to pay the 60TL per month fine.

Hi - been reading ur discussion - we are thinking of bringing our car over later this yr

It is a D reg customised Vauxhall Astra

What would it cost for the import tax roughly - hubby loves the car but may not be worth cost of shipping/driving it over if that & tax exceed car value

Thanks

Hi, I have been running my car on z-plates for just over a year now, I asked customs at the time what it would cost to register my car and was given a price. I was back at customs last week and asked again what it would cost, I was then quoted the same figure as I was over a year ago.

They look in their little book to see the cost of the car at the time of manufacture, easy way to work out what you will pay is to half the price of the car and that will give you a fair idea of what you will have to pay.

If you are already living in the trnc, take your log book to customs in Nicosia and they will tell you what you will have to pay.

Hope this helps.

Aeye

I think it is too old unless you have owned it from new.

Alternatively classic car import rule, it isnt old enough.

Cost of shipping or driving over is more than the car is worth.

The Glasses guide they assess your car on is 2 years old so its a farse any which way you look at it.You also pay a "Runner "to sort out yours paperwork whom you pay direct and in cash (Wonder is this is declared to the goverment and tax paid on it.No win situation Im afraid
