From this minute on (noon in Amsterdam) the mayor of Amsterdam has given the reinforced Amsterdam police the right to stop "any person" in the center of the city and in and near the Amsterdam Arena Stadium - and body search such a person. This is meant to avoid problems with so called "English football fans".

"Hooligans", another fine English export article...

Holland-England is sold out. The (multifunctional) Amsterdam Arena Stadium has a capacity of ca 52.000 during sports matches.

RE msg 3, kamaks: (...) and peep shows !!!!! (...)

=> It may interest you to know that "peep shows" in the Amsterdam Red Light district are very popular. 73 (seventy three...) percent of the spectators is British (source: Amsterdam Yearbook, 2008).

=> Of course not, Stubs! Scots are easygoing drinkers (...) and never caused problems during sports matches in Holland...

"The biggest four hooligan firms in Holland belong to Feyenoord from Rotterdam, Ajax from Amsterdam, FC Den Haag and FC Utrecht. The rivalry between these firms is instense, with the biggest hooligan elelments belonging to Ajax and Feyenoord who have the largest folllowing. Ajax's F-Side and Feyenoord, who come from the second largest city in Holland, have been at the forefront of hooligan violence and have been at war for years."

Amsterdam police estimates that there are now 11.000 English "supporters and others" in Amsterdam. The worrying thing is that only 7.000 supporters have a ticket for the match... Good luck, center of Amsterdam... :-(

I have to say, when Spurs played PSV a few years ago in London, The PSV supporters were mingling with all the Spurs fans in the pubs before and after the match at WHL. I didn't see one bit of trouble, and that was with the Dutch drinking HUGE amounts quick (more than the english which is alot).

They seemed to be able to enjoy themselves without the need for violence!

Amsterdam police: Ajax' F-side, supported by "fan clubs of other Dutch teams", seem to have decided on a location just outside Amsterdam, where they'll wait for English supporters. Ajax' F-side intends to get revenge for the harassment of Ajax-supporters when football club Ajax Amsterdam toured England this summer.

(If the friendly match has not yet begun, I'll report about the first victims...).

Real friendly people! It is a shame you can't say that about the majority of the english supporters that travel abroad to watch club and country!

Must see how they are getting on - rest of my brood are watching it.

Just back from Lewis which is more than half Viking anyway, and Skye

which must be the most beautiful island in the world. My Dutch friend

has emailed me from her new post in Cambodia! She gets about, but

she claims to be Scottish now, and sheds her Dutch roots. Can't understand

that. The best teams will win anyway, but we still celebrate and love the game.

After the match the Dutch police arrested 15 dutch "supporters" and 0 English. And let's face it, the English supporters had more to grouse about, only drawing with these second rate clowns.

Wished Van Bronkhurst and Van Bommel had played, I used to enjoy watching them over the years, many years.

Where ya hiding Hans.

Dear Hans

I don't think your best wishes helped the Scots, much... but your team showed that England have a LONG way to go, yet...

Naturally the most important game last night was N.I v Israel .... ;)
