The fact that it's still possible to eat out reasonably cheaply, but, of course, as you rightly point out, the weather has to be No.1

You can walk down the street at night without worrying about getting attacked. Can leave the car unlocked and know it will still be there when you get back.

My best friend stays there and I miss her soooooo much. Apart from that, of course the weather, but the slower laid back life, the food, the people both ex-pats and locals. Better stop, all I will say is I wish I was there and not in a damp cool Scotland. Best Pal, you know who you are - luv you and other half.

I agree with all above, another thing is that if anyone breaks the law, the police are allowed to do their job without the criminal having 'do gooders' to protect them.

The punishment fits the crime.

We as a family all feel safe, that in itself added to everything else makes me love this Island.

Where are all the people who are always moaning about TRNC. I have seen posts on here about crap restruants ,bad service, bad food,no water,no electric, cant get this ,cant get the other, people being ripped off in the harbour, all sorts of complaints, about the only thing you all agree on is the good weather then you are complaining how cold and damp it is in the winter months.People being burgled when they are asleep, and dont tell me it does not happen, because it does, peoples apartments broken into,Electric fuse boxes being stolen, and thats just a few of the posts on here.Considering there are only 200000 in the north you have your fair share of crime on your paradise island. No terrorist activity in the north cos they is moslems or had that not occured to any one. I have no worries about going out at night, and I quite often leave my car unlocked at night, but that is my stupid fault, but it has not been stolen nor has my house been burgled.I have water, gas, electric and I love it here.....

Coachie - I do agree with you. We (as you may know) have a holiday apartment in NC, which has given us a lot of pleasure over the past few years. We live in a very 'nice' part of the UK and often (admittedly without realising) go out in the mornings and leave our back door unlocked/kitchen window open. We have been visiting the TRNC for about 20 years. When we first started visiting, it was a very different place to what it is now (some things better, some worse). The appeal, all those years ago, was that it was 'different' and I suppose in some ways, it still is. I think the big changes started was when Ex-pats/retired people saw a 'paradise' where property was cheap and pensions went a long way. I still love NC but am so pleased I didn't let Paul persuade me to move there permanently. I drive to work, on a beautiful sunny morning, see corn growing in the fields, honeysuckle, country gardens. I moan about the UK, but .......................

And .....we have seasons!

Regards.

Good post Jeannie.....we too have an apartment in NC but it will only ever be for holidays/longer breaks.

There is much to enjoy in NC,but I wouldn't consider living there full time.

Washerman...The sun..if you want to end up all wrinkled and old before your time.I will probably end up rusty but I stand less chance of getting skin cancer and looking like a dried leaf. You may think its great but time will tell...Hope of course that you dont get any of the nasty things that go with too much sun...

Best response I can think of to your post. If you can afford to live in such a nice place in the UK, how come your holiday home is in NC?

That's the same point as you tried to make except in reverse!

For the last 6 years my wife and I have spent first Sat in Oct, until first Sat in May in TRNC. May to October we live in a static caravan on a holiday park on E Yorks coast. We have another that we rent out and my wife works in the site fish shop. We always have visitors stopping with us, mostly grandchildren, teenagers all. This is the reason we return to UK. It's just over 7 weeks to our return to TRNC. I always look forward to October more than I do May. My wife the opposite. The weather, crime, pace of life, value for money. The four main reasons for our move, TRNC comes out top in all four. We can't vote in TRNC so are entitled to complain, that is our soap box. I'd never knock the fundamentals of TRNC, like it, love it, put up with it or pxss off. Lots of ex-pats can't pxss off because they've burnt their boats and moved over on a one way ticket, so they may be the ones that complain the most. People keep saying things are getting worse, I haven't felt that in the last 6 years

minertor. That sounds good to me, the reason I won't move is because of my 4 grandchildren, I love them too much to leave them, I am heavy involved with everything they do, grandaughter who is gymnastic in the British squad Grandson plays rugby 2 girls play in brass bands, it's great to be able to watch them grow up, we are in NC December & January and have holidays in Turkey May & September but couldn't leave everything behind.

I too prefer the best of both worlds. I would not consider living in N.C permanently as I would

miss my family too much, and they still need me, especially the grandchildren. I also love to be

in our own lovely country and it is good to come back to its coolness and fresh greenery. But it

is also great to be going out to sunny warm Cyprus and being able to eat delicious unadulterated

veg. & fruit in season, meeting up with friends, eating out at favourite places, being able to swim

until Nov. etc. etc...

Jeannie, in current circumstances, admitting to having a 'holiday home' in NC and your permanent home in the UK, is not something that you should be posting on a public forum.

Washerman, you say people should not admit to saying they have a holiday home in NC, why? As in all countries holiday homes are becoming the norm, take GB, there are a lot of second home owners. People just like to get away from their usual 'grind', and prefere their own dwelling instead of hotels, it also brings in revenue as most holiday home owners spend more. Just wondered at your post thats all, please dont think I am having a go, just curious ,lol

Another reason to like NC, is the scenery.

berkeh2001 - message 61.

Our apartments are lovely inside, but sadly, due to (lack of) maintenance to communal areas, stairways, etc. they do resemble a block of council flats when you enter/go up the stairs. Please don't get me wrong, I was born and bred on a council estate, so not being snobbish, just a bit disappointed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, where in Uk can four young teenagers walk too and from the local fair

with no worries of having mobile phones stolen, or beaten or harrassed by gangs.

In UK a couple of years ago, there was a 'fun' evening in our local high street. Gangs of youths decided

to strut the street, hurling abuse at all and sundry and spraying that awful spray foam at all the shop fronts.

Yes, the police eventually controlled them, at taxpayers expense. It spoilt their chances of mingling with the locals on what should have been a very casual fun evening for them and the shopkeepers.

You are so right flowerfairy, bricks through windows, the old folks just cannot go any where on the streets, fear of mugging. Youngsters just set upon because they looked at a gang member in the wrong way. So many things that are better in NC

Not where I live, I can go to the local shop anytime. 7-15pm now children still playing outside in the street on bikes. Some teenagers walk around the streets and the local park but not threatening.

flowerfairy - do agree with you. We moved to Suffolk from S.E. London 9 years ago, but, unfortunately, this type of behaviour seems to be spreading all the time.

Did I hear that there was some trouble between some local youngsters and some Pakastani youngsters in a village in TRNC lately?

Unfortunately, it seems to be the 'way of the world' sadly.

Dont have an awful lot of trouble here where I live.Had a large fair here not long ago never heard of any problems worth mentioning. Get a big top circus here twice a year and have not heard of any trouble.Yes their are trouble spots and they are well policed. You have as many police and army to make things quiet there. There are as many people live in my town as there are in the WHOLE of the TRNC. When you concentrate that many people in the town you are bound to get bother, but spread the population along 150 miles and the trouble factor deminishes some what, but like every thing else things are much, much better in the TRNC..Give it time....

Dizzycows..Where on earth do you live if things are as bad as that.Do you live in Salford cos that is the sort of behaviour that goes on there, but it does not happen every where.I go with my wife to our local town regularly without any problems. My wife goes on her own quite often and has had no problems whatsoever. So why paint a picture that people are quivering in there homes and cannot move, not as bad as you try to make out..Why does everyone want to run this country down,I have been in a lot worse places than England for trouble...

You know I have seen the strangest thing this week. As we are near Pizzaking we stop to say hello this week I have seen 3 or 4 sometimes british lads aged well look like 13 to 15 sat at a table everynight smoking with a beer in front of them. I know one belongs to a london cyp who lives here. I was gobsmacked that no licencing laws. Im not saying they were out to cause trouble just got into life here but so young xx

Coachie.... I live in a very nice area, but you know, I know of a lot of folks that live in London who are as I have said, scared to venture out. Plus I dont like paying so much tax!!!!!

And its just got worse with this labour gov, as they keep telling us crime is on the decrease, where?, in 10 downing street, but on the rise every where else. lol x

Oh forgot to mention also that the towns are starting to rebel against the drunks, the crime etc, the people are actually taking things into their own hands and having private security firms to protect them in their own homes, for shopping trips, you tell me that GB is better, no way, it has become the gutter of europe. Whilst people dont like to admit these things, our country will never improve, we should all be striving to make GB great again. Can only do this with law and order, and Labour is to weak to do any thing about it, or rather they dont want to loose votes.

When I heard that a convict was released early and was given meal vouchers to compensate for the free meals he would have had if he'd completed his sentence, that just about summed my feelings about the labour government.

then, yesterday i read that the bomber is being released to die with dignity because he has prostrate cancer, well..................

Heard yesterday that the police are giving out questionnaires for the ones they are nicking to see if they think their treatment is in line with 'the human rights'!!!, asked why the police are wasting tax payers money the answer was they are the police customers!! think I have heard it all now, Labours motto is give to the criminal, hard luck to the victim, soft, mamsy pamsy state we have become -----

It is not just all Labour, the other lot will be just as daft.I would have thought you had realised by now there all vote catcher gimmicks. How about Camerons humiliation the other day when one one of his MEP,s was spouting his mouth off about getting rid of the NHS on American TV. Cameron then comes on saying he had no right to say that, then one of his big sidekicks is recorded moaning about having to live of ration type expenses. They are not as squeaky clean as they try to make everybody believe they are..Please dont run away when the other lot get in power because you are all in for a rude awkening...No doubt we will get the usual whingeing about the mess the other lot left behind....

Yes and that MEP is right in some ways our NHS was great, but there last 10 yrs have been rather lacking and Cameron did not say the MEP had no right to say what he said, what he said was the Conservatives were behind the NHS to get it back to what it should be like! So dont twist the truth, you should be a reporter coachie! We are all in for a rude awakening as this labour lot have got more 'nasties' that are not uncovered to the public yet, mess you just wait, mess is not the word, more like disaster! lol

Getting back to the original thread -------

Not having to worry about getting the washing dried, no need for a tumble dryer, wash, put on line dried within an hour(summer).

GB lucky to put on line, as never know what weather will do!

Let me see now......Obviously the weather....and in no particular order....

We have a swimming pool to ourselves. I couldn't afford one in the UK.

Great scenery...Sea and mountain views,

House without a mortgage.

Our pensions go further as local produce cheaper, also beer, gin and whisky.

No surveillance.

No Political correctness.

No being conned by stealth taxes.

Less crime and less policing and regulation.

No health and safety regulations to the point of absurdity (but could do with some !)

Not having to put up with that fatuous Gordon Brown and gang (not excepting Cameron)

Need I go on ?.....Oh yes I almost forgot.....the education system....freeing criminals early....no EC stupidity....goodbye England, I wish I could get my country back ! but it's too late now.
