HI All

Can anyone help...we have a friend who wants to visit, but she has a US passport with a UK residency stamp in it, will she require an extra visa to go through the boarder from Larnaca?

Her Husband is English and works for BA hence going via LCA!

The South side border police might try to stop her in either direction as she does not have an EU passport.

Dear Tom re msg 2

1/ the "South" side Police - aren't policing a "border" - merely the first point in Cyprus where they can exercise EU laws - you KNOW that....it is a UN Cease fire line - commonly known as the Green Line - and the EU regulations are known as the Green Line Regulations.

2/ If your friend is entering via Larnaca then she may have her passport stamped on entry, but she does NOT need to prearrange a visa to enter the RoC.

3/ The stamp in her passport will allow her to visit the "north" ( "TRNC") and return without a "fuss" from the RoC Police. If her passport isn't stamped - then she needs to carry her airline tickets to prove how she entered Cyprus

4/ Entering the "TRNC" is a doddle for a US citizen - just like any EU citizen.

5/ IF you friend was entering "TRNC" and trying to enter the "rump" RoC THAT might be "fun".. but if she crosses over via a RoC point - especially on foot - say Ledra - she would probably go through unchallenged...

Tom I Agree with mmmmmm

You shouldn't have a problem.

I hold an Australian passport only and had no trouble getting an automatic 90 day visa on arrival at Larnaca and the same on crossing the boarder to the TRNC.

I understand US has automatic visa rights for most major countries these days but to satisfy yourself check with your embassy and/or the ROC one.
