it has always been like that paul, from way back in the 50's and 60's to the present day,

but in fairness to the other side they have consistently asked "why should we compromise"?

perhaps it would be more accurate to call the current process a regular series of meetings:

in theory a meetings programme could be used to establish confidence-building measures or

even confirm an outline deal cobbled together by technocrats, as in a normal peace process

bizarrely 6xm has been turning himself almost inside out of late

setting out an unlikely stall apparently based on allowing the north real autonomy (!)

while a snowstorm of official-looking property deeds dated "2099 or thereabouts"

float down onto nicosia like manna from heaven

things cannot continue as they are and the corpse must soon be put painlessly to sleep,

unless both sides have the free time so meetings can continue as "liasion talks" whatever

but this must serve as a wake up call to the trnc to get into shape

Paul,

I'm also being realistic.

I personaly dont think that,I'd live long enough to see the "problem" be solved.

Than again,I also beleive that,we must not try to fix something when nothing is broken!!!!!

As far as Cyprus is concerned,we have never had trouble free time this long.

So,if things arent gonna get better, might as well stay the way they are.

Enemy across the road can be seen,

its when they are within you, you've got to worry.

ps.re msg 4:I wasnt serious with my comment.

look guys,

there seem to be a number of different things going on in parallel, at the same time:

puffing the talks as a "real peace process" like the dayton accords over bosnia etc.,

(but these were not) on cyprus 44 by two two different lots of people:

(i) well-wishers and members of good faith who would honestly like the sides to "agree"

(ii) several tricky greek-cypriot supporters trying hard to unnerve us, but they have failed

ok the talks do not cut the mustard as a real peace process so what next?

was this excercise going anywhere in particular? not according to reports over the last year

but I remain very optimistic about north cyprus and its potential for the future

in my position as a non-cypriot I have no role whatsoever in what cypriots decide,

but if the sides succeed in a "real" peace process, I will be the first to congratulate all parties

though salahi argues the cure could be worse than the illness!

RE MSG 9

andre;

I always go by one very important and crutial "fact"

HISTORY ALWAYS REPEATS ITSELF

I'm 45 yares of age,

have not whitnessed 50's

I did 60's and 70's

when my dad left home to go to work in the morning,we didnt know if he'd make it back home,

went to visit family(early 70's)got stooped on the way home(nicosia)by greek MPs,they took my dad away(suspected TMT member!he was)

saw him again week later almost beaten to death

11 members of my family were beried alive,

Now, I ask you all

Why would anyone in their wright mind would want to risk to go back to those days again????

All the while, they are there and we are here,we can remain friends, but try living together again???

question for the ones thats been married and got divorced;

How would you like to go back and live together again????

The ones that have tried would know the answer to that better!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cyprus issue is no different.
