can anyone beat the £8 per day long term which is the lowest i seem to have found on the internet?

am planning to come over to live but my car is 10 years old and doesn't fall into the category for importing ... so i take it the best option initially is to find a cheap car hire

any new advice welcome.

That's a deal and can't imagine where you got that, least of all find one even cheaper. We don't wanna buy a car either cos don't know how long we're staying and who needs the hassle of having to sell on, cos you won't get a decent price for it anyway. Also hiring is easier on the head. No worries about road tax, Insurance etc etc, they're all a bloody rip off anyway. You get pulled over by the police every five minute for the most petty things, like havin a MUD flap missin In 100 degree heat!!!! Locals get away with murder. beware and think before you burn your bridges.

walkerscott,

Renting for a month or two isn't a bad idea (same as renting a house for the first YEAR or two!) as it gives you an idea of what uses a car will be put to (don't anybody DARE say "driving" ) and how big it needs to be etc.

As mentioned, the red plate means that you probably won't get stopped quite so much, traffic police will think 'Tourist - a lot of paperwork for no result' - i.e. you'd probably be out of the country before any possible penalty could be enforced...

Keith.

WS. If you've had your car over 5 years, you can import it, doesnt matter how old it is.

13km east of Guzelyurt puts you between Kalkanli and Tepebasi?

"the £8 car is from their rent a wreck range"

You might find they are all in the rent a wreck range

In the UK the police have ANPR cameras (Automatic number plate recognition). In NC do they have ANTCR cameras (Automatic Non TC Recognition)?

Why would anyone want to hire and drive a wreck,TC or Non TC?

To be honest, we have often hired cars from Green. Wouldn't call them 'top of the range' but then, wouldn't call them 'rent a wreck' either. I will say that when you go to them at short notice (long story) they do sometimes stripe you up because they know you are a bit desperate, but, by and large, not a bad service. However, for £8.00 a day, I'm not sure what you'd get...........................

Dear Hector i suggest you take a trip to the Girne police station ,go in the traffic division, look at the case on the wall and just see how many licenses there are.

most you will find are TC.

I think that is a derogatory statement about our host country ,please retract.

If you have ownered your car for 5 or more years then you may import it.

If you have owned a car for less than 5 years it must not be older than 3 years for you to import.

Walkerscott, for 8 quid a day check very carefully that there is a wheel on each corner of the car.

Have a very good time here, anyway.

msg 23, when did they change it? in 2007 I bought a 3 1/2 year old car in UK and shipped it over. No problem. My friend bought a similar car and drove it over. Again, no problem. Up until then I'd been driving one of Green car hires ex rent a wreck. Never had a problem with that either , apart from space, or lack of.
