Does anybody else have this problem. I have hundreds of tiny tiny little black insects crawling out of the woodwork, just in the kitchen, crawling over my worktops, in the cupboards, drawers, in my cereal, rice everywhere. Have to throw everything. Last year during the heat was the same and I was given an insecticide and told its a common problem in Cyprus from the wood, but my friends dont seem to have this problem. Its a nightmare emptying the entire kitchen to spray. Does anyone know of an insect killer tablet that one can just put in the cupboards etc.

Hi Linda,

I found this problem last year with tiny ants, I had to throw everything out. Sometimes these insects are in something you buy from the supermarket and you bring them back to your house. I realised, you have to keep everthing in tupperware type containers in your kitchen cupboards.

Hi Just to let you know what you have are stored product insects. You have probably purchased something that was already infested and they have multiplied and spread to the other dried foods. What you need to do is throw every bit dried food out and empty your kitchen cupboards of any items you have in there including pots and pans. Once you have done this get a couple of cheap fly sprays and spray all the cupboards once dry you can then put your bits back in.

Try to keep everything in 'airtight' containers so that if you have purchase something with bugs in they do not infest the rest of your cupboard. There are plenty of plastic containers about but make sure they are 'airtight', which are not the cheapest around but it does save re-stocking your cupboard everytime you have an infestation!!

These insects are weevils, and they do eat through tupperware. They are usually in infested flour when you purchase it. I only ever see them in the warmer months. Difficult to get rid of them, best to throw infested goods away.

I had this problem last year and had to throw out all dried food and everything contaminated. They had even got in the so called air tight containers. So I washed down and sprayed with the 3 month spray killing stuff. A couple of months late they were back again but not so bad, so I did the whole procedure again, and also hung fly killer sticky sheets on the cupboard doors. Touch wood I've been ok this year, but the strange thing is that the sticky fliy sheets are covered in dead flies. I can't figure out how they got in the cupboards, as I have fly screens at all the windows and door and really don't have flies in the house. Another mystery waiting to be solved!!!!!!

ok thanks for all this. Im not sure why the guy in the garden shop said they were a common problem in Cyprus from the wood, maybe they come from infested flour and then lay their eggs in the wood/mellamine cupboards.
