Is it illegal for a TC hairdresser to cut hair or run a salon without the qualifications that Jez has been asked to have? I have now been forced to look for a new hairdresser, two of which have been struck off my list and I want to ensure that the next one I find will not be hauled off to prison too, forcing me to look yet again.

Is this true because I visited a salon this morning( run by a TC female) and when I asked her she said she didn't need qualifications and that she had no training and she "picked it up as she went along". Needless to say I will not be making an appointment there. Can anyone explain how she can avoid prosecution for the (at least) 2 years she has been running the salon?

Its called double standards. One for established traders with police connections. The other for ex-pats with the audacity of setting up a competing business and doing well.

early bird ... yes here they do need the level 3 to work in a salon .. but a salon owner does not have to be a sytlish to have a salon .. but she or he must employ a level 3 worker .. so the salon can stay open ...but as u have stated a tc salon .. with no qualifications ?? u can imform the council..as it can be a illegal salon ... or on every salon or male babber or beauty salon .. on they wall they must by law have the level 3 showing .. the level3 in turkish is a Ustalkk Belgesi .. this is the qualifications u can look for ...

Yorgozlu, my intention for this post was to find a 'legal' hairdresser, not to open a debate. I just requested the facts from anyone who knew without having to 'go to the authorities'. Bandwagon, are you suggesting raceism is involved here? Firewalks, I will now look for the correct certificates. Dav88, sounds as though they are worth a try. Thank you.

Try Bonita, opposite Teachers Hotel. Talking to her of the sad episode this week, of which she had heard nothing, she explained to me the process of running your own salon, and showed me the Certificates one has to have, duly stamped by the authorities. She is London trained, but had to prove her capabilities here before being allowed to operate. I am sure that if any hairdresser is genuine, they will gladly show their certificates to you toprove it! Although there is nothing in it for me, I fully recommend Bonita and she is one of the cheapest intown. She haskept me looking almost respectable for seven years now. That must mean something. (I have a phone number if you want it)

Its a shame they dont put as much effort into finding out whether developers are qualified and whether Management Companies have any qualifications to run sites who are custodians of thousands £££££ of owners money in their bank accounts!!! instead of worrying about whether someones hair is cut and coloured by a 'qualified ' person Cooper who did your hair lollllllllllllllllll Mrs Millzer

TO EARLYBIRD. Phone number for Bonita is 0392 815 1753. If you go to her Yashin, tell her Marion sent you - perhaps she will give me an extra cup of coffee for that! Try her. She is a lovely lady and good with hair - who could ask for anything more!
