This really saddens me. OLIVE trees are supposed to be protected!!!! PLEASE dont keep buying olive wood - there will be none left soon.

adagirl,

There is no shortage of olive trees. New groves are being planted all the time. I'm afraid your concerns are misjudged. I need warmth in the winter here and wood burning helps.

Exactly NN why dont wood fans start growing fast growing trees using the coppice system???? This ignorance of some people about the eco system makes my blood boil!! Ask around or when the trees are pruned and pick up the stuff, go to the beach and gather drift wood - in other words get off your backside and gather wood yourself!!! DONT pay unscrupulous sellers of ILLEGAL olive!!! You are afraid of being cold? How abouıt being afraid of your great great grandchildren inheriting NOTHING from this earth? - Trees sop up pollution and give back fresh air, we NEED them!!!

"we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors - we borrow it from our children"

Think about it!!!!

I apologise, that old proverb/saying is wrong in my opinion!!! "

We aren't "borrowing" from our children. Borrowing means that we will pay it back, but we aren't paying back. We are STEALING from our children.... So go on - burn whats taken years and years for nature to provide, the OLIVE:

provides fruit, oil, and shade and never mind the creatures that also depend on the olive for survival..............As long as you are warm eh?

Hi all,

So I shouldn't be burning olive wood that's ok I respect that. As I don't live here permenantly and I couldn't manage to go looking for drift wood on my own me being a mere middle aged female. Can someone tell me what I should be burning on my log burner and what price I should be paying?

The burning of wood is sustainable, the use of fossil fuel is not.

Olive wood has a longer cycle to replenish itself as opposed to pine or citrus, so it doesn't mean you cant burn it ,its the amount of it used that should be regulated.

There is a lot of olive pruning sold which is quite acceptable some of the trees have received no or little attention for 30 to 40 years.

I was under the impression there are many providers of legal olive wood from pruning and dead trees etc. I believe periodically they prune them back quite savagely leaving a lot of otherwise waste wood. Carob is also good and should be available from legitimate sustainable suppliers. You just need to check where you buy them from is legitimate. There are also compressed waste sawdust/wood and olive pip logs you can buy as well.

Hi all,

There was a young chap who posted on here last year. He had set up a business supplying logs from fallen trees, which he brought down from the mountains. He seemed to give good value for money. Does anyone remember his name and contact details?

I think it was Memduh 05338367582. He also delivers small amounts of gravel ie 1 tonne. Good guy, comes when he says he will & will certainly use him for logs in October ready for winter.
