I wish to thank the Alsancak Belediye for its efforts to give us as much water as is available. Not only do we still get water on a regular basis - the Belediye now is changing the mains from a 1 inch pipe into a 2 inches pipe. The pressure will double and our water tanks will fill on the double! Thanks again, Mr. Mayor and your friendly staff! Glad to live in Yesiltepe (Alsancak)!

If the pipe is doubled in size, the pressure will not change at all.

If the pipe doubles in diameter, the volume through it (area) will increase 4 fold, not double, but the restrictions in the pipework to your house will not change.

If the pressure did double, most will have big problems as the ball float on the fill valve in their water tanks may not be big enough to overcome the pressure, and the tanks will not stop filling.

We already get water 4 times a week (in Als), and really couldn't handle any more anyway!!

RE msg 4, blackjock: (...) If the pipe is doubled in size, the pressure will not change at all. (...)

=> I believe you on your word, blackjock! Exact science is not my forte... I hope you are right and I think I will love to live with the possible problems you describe!

P.S. The Belediye promised that things would improve and that's what I cling to!

Blackjock is correct, increasing mains size will not lead to a pressure increase but rather to an increase in volume.

The only way to fully take advantage of this would be to increase the diameter of all your internal plumbing and that which connects the house to the main.

Apologies for the grammatical errors.

News.

It would appear that the place that was reputed to have abundant water when we came here 6 years ago, is now the one with NONE. I hope Namsoy is happy driving around in his BMW. No doubt he has plenty of water. I wish I was Turkish Cypriot and could vote. My tanks (only two one tons) are now empty again and we like many others will have to call a tanker.

Water prices in Yesiltepe (Alsancak): from the mains: about 3 TL/ton (I think). Belediye tanker (if necessary: call and the tanker comes the next day): 7 TL/ton. Commercial tanker (emergencies): 10 TL/ton.

Are prices for water the same in all towns/villages?

Thanks for that Yorgozlu. I hope you are right about the water and the voting. It`s like when people complain about the government in Britain but when it comes to an election, they get back in again.

=> Stubs, it must be my poor knowledge of the beautiful English language, but: every flight is direct, isn't it? Do you mean non-stop flights..?

Newscoop.

When will you feel the need to stop adding the following line, when replying to our Dutch friend?

=> Blah blah, indeed. "newscoop" only exists virtually on the Internet so what would one care for his blah blah? Anonymous letters and anonymous postings disappear in my bin.
