For first class I would suggest Efendi in the old Turkish Quarter. Unless you specifically want kebabs I wouldn't go to Niazi's it's really not that special. The Dragon at the Rocks Hotel is supposed to be excellent but that is Chinese. I've also heard that the restaurant at the Colony is good especially the Chateaubriand.

Try Morelli's, just off the Municipality 'Square', down the lane from what used to be Guido's Brasserie. The owners name is Niazi - no relation to the owner of the large unimpressive restuarant opposite The Dome.

Morelli's serve great steaks and the braised lamd shank mmmm...

Bon apetite

As I have posted before--Nazi's is just a greedy money machine. If yo book they will still keep you waiting until they have accommodated larger groups. And the food ? Kebab is a Kebab is a Kebab

Personally do not like Niazi's - nothing specific but just think it is cafeteria type food under differant name. Also when we have been we too have noticed larger groups being served first and also locals being served before us.

If it is a fish meal you are looking for the try Lagoon (opposite side of road to Niazi) - i am not a fish lover but their Fish Set Menu is Luuuverly (no bones, wide selection, cooked nice, served nice). If booking ask for table overlooking sea or you could end up looking out over the road watching the world go by.

If not especially meat then i too would go with Efendi.

Enjoy

Efendi is not near the harbour. İts about a 15 min walk İd say..

Lagoon (opposite side of road to Niazi) is a bit posh so dressing up would be fine.

I suggest Effendi.

I am a regular at Niazi's but you will feel more at home dressed up at Effendi's.

Cleo:"nothing specific but just think it is cafeteria type food under differant name. "

I would like to go to that kind of cafeteria, come one tell us, where is it? so we can all go and have a nice steak with all the trimmings.

Niazi's, you cant beat it for ambiance, love the decor, the professionalism . You don't have to have kebab if you don't want to, it has a la carte items too,.

The only thing I didn't like about Niazi's, if you let them, they will rush you.

Try their deep fried ice cream next time you're there. (Mirage) they also have the elegant part upstairs.

We are over for 10 day at the new year and as I have heard so much about Efendi's I would love to go but I dont know where it is.

Can someone be so kind as give me directions.

I normally come into Kyrenia past the Pia Bell hotel on my left ,pass the law courts on the right and park in the car park on your right and the walk down right to the shops.

So could someone give me directions

Many Thanks

thanks you all for the support, guys

toon Army,

The best way to get to us is to turn left at the colony roundabout, up the road, third garage on your left, where the grapevine restaurant is, turn left there, then first left and you will see efendi restaurant.

You also can get to us by turning left, opposite the courts, with fire station on right, straight up, then right, this is ok if your walking, as it is now a one way road,

Hopefully we will see you in the near future

Food is OK at Niazi's but the service is terrible. Certainly Efendi's is good but as has already been said it's not near the harbour. Dragon is good for Chinese but very expensive.

Niazis is such excellent value for money but I must disagree with there being any service problem. Having been in many times my only comment is that sometimes they are too quick!

Back in April the question was asked where was a first class restaurant. Most mentioned are excellent value for money. To me a first class restaurant is The Rocks which is superb and quite good value. Best ambience in the place especially when the pianist who is a university professor of music, is playing.

When we stayed in September we went to the Lagoon several times. The first time was being close to the Dome Hotel as my mother couldn't walk very far and from then on it was by choice. Lovely fish. Preferred it to Niazi's ( although their fillet steak was wonderful) as we felt less rushed.

Directions to Efendi

go towards the nicosia round about coming from The Colony and just past the Grapevine at the petrol station on the left, take the next lane left 100m turn left and Efendi is in the lane on your left. In effect it is behind the grapevine.

Good luck or call andy at Efendi 0542 884 7417

Enjoy its a great place

We tried Efendis in August and will most definitely be going back. So far I would say that was the best meal we had eaten there. Every course was excellent.
