interesting comments:

>>He noted that significant convergence was achieved on EU Matters, Economy and Legislation while full agreement was reached regarding the issue of Jurisdiction.<<

and

>>Answering a question on the TRNC presidential election which is to be held in April next year, Mr Talat said it will be more useful to hold simultaneous referenda before the election.

He also announced that he won’t be running as a presidential candidate if he knows for certain that there won’t be a Cyprus settlement.

Responding to another question, the President said that the current UBP government is providing support to him at the negotiations table.

On Turkey’s Cyprus policy, he reminded that Ankara is unwaveringly supporting the negotiations process.<<

NOTE: TURKEY is supporting Talat.....!!

THAT is why

a) the "rump" RoC need to realise that this really might be "it"...

b) "doubters" as to TR wanting / needing a solution - please take heed..

They can talk and talk, but they will never agree regarding the Land issue

We've been there and done that in 2004, this is just be window dressing for whatever else is planned.

Dear Mark,

the "whatever else is planned" is just as important... the current, surreal, "status quo" has a VERY limited shelf life..

For there to be a solution both sides need to move considerably from their current position but the RoC will need to move the furthest

I am not sure they are prepared to do so without someone leaning on them heavily

Be assured, the Greek Orthodox Church have already dissuaded them!

GC youth have been barraged with propagandist lies from birth; at home, throughout school and from the church - so any further referendum would be a complete farce. And why bother with another referendum while they're still flying (in profusion) the flag of Greece?

I agree that many GC kids are only told one side of the story - and that Annan was "satan's plan" - I don't know how a leader that asked his party members to vote No to Annan ( our no means yes!?) will carry a vote - but carry it he must - as the pendulum of support will disappear.

As for the Flags.. Er HELLO ..don't you see the most pristine Red flags of TR alongside those of "TRNC"

One good thing about Annan meant the flying of the flags of the "mother nations" would largely disappear..

G'day, mmmmmmm

Er, yes - I have spotted the odd Turkish flag - strategically sited as a stark reminder to jolt the GC's memory of what happened last time they elected an archbishop who advocated ethnic cleansing...

mmmmmmm,

The flag comparison thing is a red herring, as I have said before:

GC's fly the Greek flag because they think they are Greeks.

TC's fly the TR flag in acknowledgement and gratitude for coming to their rescue.

When the chips were down TR did its bit but GR was nowhere to be seen.

The way I see it, RoC owes GR nothing whereas TRNC owes TR bigtime.

No comparison on the flag thing.

Dear Tenakoutou

re msg 14

1/ the "odd flag" is a little bit of an under-statement .. and I always note how the TC/ TR flags are renewed / cleaner than most RoC/ Greek ones ! ;)

2/ There is no doubt Makarios would have preferred TCs to leave the island - the Greek Orthodox church was lending money to GCs to buy out TCs at above market prices.. !

re msg 15 "TRNC" Vaughan..

I'm sorry that all my "exchanges" with you - over these years still hasn't managed to "persuade" you that MOST GCs feel "Hellenic" - but don't - now- seek union with Greece.

May be I'm wrong, but I think many of what YOU might call a TC are really Turks?!

I believe you used an expression within the last 24 hrs, that I have said to you re TCs and their gratitude to Turks.. "be careful what you wish for"..

it was taken from "A Rough Guide to Cyprus" - in relation to the "turkification" of the north, and some TCs feeling that their gratitude didn't mean "assimilation"...

Flags are very emotive
