Just imagine if in 3 months time the re-unification talks are successful, does anyone know what the outcome would be in the end. Would the North then become part of the EU ? Would the North have to adopt the Euro ? Would there be free flow from North to South and vise versa ? Would hire cars be allowed to be taken North to South ? Would the property market take off again and prices start to rise to meet prices in the South ? Just a few thoughts.

I would say that IF it happened (and it's a big if!) then it would be yes to all those points you mention, maybe not 'instantly' though.

IF (and a very big IF) there was reunification then by definition there would be a single state of Cyprus with no North or South, no borders. A member of the EU. There would be total freedom of movement and no restrictions on where cars could go. The Euro would be adopted immediately and the YTL phased out quickly. Do you remember the Berlin wall and German reunification in 1990? The wall came down in November 1989. On July 1, 1990, an economic, monetary and social union between East and West Germany was formed, and all restrictions concerning travel were dropped. On October 3, 1990, less than a year after the collapse of the Berlin Wall, reunification of the two Germanys was a fact. The new Germany emerged

The simple anwer would be yes to each question but the main relevant question was not asked: If there is an agreement and if it is put into operation successfully and unlike Lokmaci check point there are no hickups from the beginning, how long will it last? I would say three years at most. ismet

the position of the trnc has always been that a two-nation federated state is the correct way forward, remembering what happened "last time" that is why there can still be horse trading about the exact demarcation line eg is guzelyurt "in" or "out", what happens to tc-owned land around larnaca airport and in the limassol area etc etc of course any unified cyprus solution would mean that the north becomes part of the eu acquis and is totally integrated economically with all that that implies and bringing practical benefits but maybe a few minuses too... house prices would of course go up like like a rocket although there would inevitably be some sort of package for tcs and gcs who had to move in '74 andre

hi guys imagine dread the thought!!!!! and if are two big letters, it has taken us 34 years to get where we are, no one reconising us apart from our turkish mainland brothers, greeks apllying preassure on every country not do any buisness with the north even more so since they joined the e.u!!!! does anyone think after all these years because a change of president in the south all will change i dont think so!!!!!!! at the end of the day its not just the politicans that will have to all live together its the plain civil cypriot people and after all these years of hate taught to the young greek cypriot youth do you think we could actually live in peace if you dont belive me just take a look at other forums i.e topix to see for yourselfs im not being one sided you just look at all the deals the turkish cypriots have agreed to, it us who will be losing land, properties, certain areas, a bit part role in government even down to losing some parts of the sea on the girne side upto turkey and why do we have to sacarfice everything i have not heard one thing the greek cypriot community will sacarfice all they go on about they lost their previous homes like the turkish cypriot community did not losse anything!! even thou a few of you members think it will be better to unifiy i dont, the best solution for both sides is to reconise each other do buisness together everyone gets compensated relax all the borders and have two seperate governmetns then we all can live together in peace, because we have alraedy tried to have a unified cyprus in the 60's when both states signed treatys and once again the turks had a minor role in the government and still that was not enough for the south thats when makrios tottaly disolved our rights with his revised 13 points solution even thou that was then how can anyone tell me this wont happen again?? so in my eyes we are better like what i said if they can manage a solution in ireland after years of bloodshed and hate why cant they implement those ideas to a two sepearate state in cyprus we have done ok up to now so why change!!!! especially if we are sacarificing ourselves now to spireite questions 1) the north can go into the e.u on the back of turkey when or if they join 2) forget about adopting the euro you ask any other country who have the euro it has caused problems 3) if a peacefull solution is in place people will be able to move between the north and south with no problems 4) again if solution is in place people hireing cars can go between the two seperate states 5) property prices will be in line with the south because all embargos will be lifted so people will feel more secure when buying property without thinking they are on their own!!!! you see we dont have to have unification to have these points sorry to go on a bit but once i start writing i cant stop especially something i feel so strongly about warm reagrds to you all ukturk

Thanks for all the replies. I have to agree with all of your points ukturk. I have spent a lot of time in the South while in the RAF and now have friends who live there, even the Brits get brain washed into the hatred and propaganda that is spread around. If the impossible was to happen do you think Northern Cyprus would become a better place I have my doubts.

hi lets talk about the other side of the equation if unification happens Tourisim, some say it will be so much better i tend not to agree you look at the south places like paphos ayia napa tottally ruined with club 18-30 lager louts and its a known fact the drug problem in these resorts has escalated due to the club scene, and also im not saying i am a snob but if tourisim takes off then the prices of package holidays will get cheaper then in turn this will have a adverse effect because you will get the low class kind of tourist coming over wanting something for nothing, never trying any of the local food or traditions just sticking to english breakfast, mac d's and sunday dinners (nothing wrong with that in moderation before anyone starts!!! lol) again just look at the south how its filtred with these resturants and english fun pubs with tina turner and michael jackson trani shows and dont you think this will happen in the north because the north has by far the better beaches so they will be over crowded with brits with their union jack vests and shorts and their open toe sandals with their grey socks on up to their knees!!!! lol and look what happend to spain if you are looking for a example during the 80's and 90's with their low cost holidays anyway enuf of the rant regards ukturk

i do agree with us ukturk - the GC missed their chance on last referendum - and from what i can see now even if i was for reun ification in 2004 ? I am not for it anymore - for the peace of living of the TC - it is much better - the only solution could be a separate state - TC have been too many time kicked by the GC - in 1963 - in 1974 and as it says " never 2 without 3 " and i would like my children notto know cyprus like their father did twice !!!
