hi daver

this discussion seems to come up all the time but i defo 100% say change your sterling money in cyprus at banks or change offices, and dont change at resturants or bars, if you need a bit of money i.e for taxis or food then change a bit in the u.k so you can have some ytl in case of emergency, you can pay for taxi and food in sterling but again they will give a not so good rate

hope this helps

Hi Daver

I agree with ukturk. The 1st time I came out to N. Cyprus, and being as green as grass, I changed my sterling into YTL with Thomas Cook in the UK, the rate I got was 2.1, when I came out to the TRNC it was 2.4.

Cheers

Bob.

why not use the cash point and draw it out there. If you are with HSBC premier then theres no charge for the transaction and the rate always appears good.

Anyone think differently?

Yes, bring sterling and change here. If you have any Euros around, say from a european trip you took, then bring them too, just over 2YTL to One Euro.

Please don't bring Travellers Cheques in any denomination. The exchange rate is very poor as it takes them 30 days to turn them into cash and they can't predict what will happen to the exchange rate by the time they get their money.

There is also no charge when drawing on a Nationwide account. Their rate is also very good as they use the rate of that day when calculating the exchange.
