How many would buy here in TRNC if they knew at the time what they know now, lets just have a simple answer yes or no

My vote is no

dizzycows, nor do I, I've been in UK since May. Back HOME Oct 3rd, I also have the best of both worlds. For all those who have "burnt their bridges" when leaving UK "for good" and want to return, contact me, "I'll show you the way" as someone once said.

Definately YES,

haven't you all been reading the UK news lately?????

It isn't as good over there as you remember. You can't possibly turn the clock back, so is it not possible to make the best of what you have here.

My 'kids' could never lead the lives they are if they'd stayed in UK.

(please, I'm not including the people that have bad builder/re mortgage problems), of course I feel for them.

Definate No.

Flowerfairy,

The thread was not about living in the TRNC but whether we would still buy if could turn the clock back.

As I still dont own,(no title)like many thousands, dont know if "buy"is the right word when one hands over money but doesnt own the item paid for.

Ok, sorry, I read the line 'if you could turn back time'.

On the other hand, how much would you have paid out in rent if you didn't buy?

Mine's still 'Yes', it's still as much of a gamble as the stock exchange.

I am still in the "No" camp, although we only have a holiday home.

Him indoors is still, unfortunately, in the "yes" brigade (although I think, just think, he may be changing his mind)

Liz - fancy buying a very nice one bed apartment that looks like it's housed in a council block in S.E. London? I can do you a very good price. Anyone else, for that matter

A NO from me too

I am shocked by the shear number of no's in comparison to those in the yes camp. Do I presume that the NO is mainly related to the buying process and the fact that most have not got what they have paid for? i have no problems with the builder or my property buy I feel I have been "robbed" in that like Girne29, I have paid full price for a property I will never truly own.

Not many will be recommending the TRNC as a destination for buying that holiday home then?

I hope more people respond it looks as if there are a lot more no people.

my guess is there are lots who dont want to say in case it effects the selling price of there home here, could this be possible ?

You are right about renting costs, but my point is that as I dont have title deed I am really renting anyway and have just paid £100,000 advance rent to the builder.

Leaving that aside I can rent nice place for £3500-£4500 a year .Call it £4000. I will be dead in 25 years so that makes it £100,000 to rent for life.Over the same period I will have to pay site fees and expenses of £1000 for my bought house, that makes £25,000.Say my house cost £100,000 as well then over 25 years cost is 100,000+25,000=£125,000

Assume appreciation I would lose and the increase in rental over the years works out at 3% per year, that leaves 2% out of 5% interest giving after 25 years £65,000, add the £25,000 for site fees.

£90K better off renting over 25 years.

We most of us buy knowing this, but want to own in order to live out our lives in our own place. If the powers that be dont want us to do this then impediments to owning should have been put in place before buying, not after

Girne29......that's an interesting way to look at a totally unsatisfactory and scandalous state of affairs that is allowed to exist in TRNC.

Your hypothesis assumes that the builder/title deed holder ie the bloke you gave £100K "advance rent" to, will allow you to live in it for 25 years and not dispose of "his" property in the interim !

You,me,and many many others made a massive mistake "buying" in NC.

cronos message 39.

Exactly,

Until you get the deeds, you are living in the builders house on his land .Some will argue that the new registration

contracts law makes a difference.Personally I dont see it makes much difference ,if that contract is still not legally enforceable in practise.

Some also argue that you are the owner when that contract is registered or when you get the keys, but my thinking is simple,if the property is in somebdy else's name then it belongs to that person.I am paying him for a promise that he will sign it over to me someday.

In hindsight sounds so childishly naive that I feel silly.

Again this thread is not about staying in TRNC but about buying here and the two shouldnt be confused. I would recommend staying here but at the moment never recommend buying.

Good point girne 29 I would stay here but rent not invest again as i cant see a return on my investment any time soon and if i wanted to sell would prob find myself in a negative equity situ for quite a while
