Celabrating 30 years Anniversry of the very first Caister Soul Weekender "PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE PARTY OF A LIFETIME!" Who would have thought three decades ago when it first began that the Caister Soul Weekender would still be running today, and not just running, but stronger and more influential than ever. But it is! 2009 will see Caister reach its 30th Birthday and still with many of the original DJ team intact. (Although a few pounds heavier and all a bit greyer) Since those days Soul & Funk Weekenders have become very popular world wide, and here in North Cyprus you can join the party on Saturday 22nd August from 8 pm entry 10 TL ....... and on Sunday 23rd from 2.00 pm entry free. See you all there - To see Poster click link. http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq15WOdA

If that was a soul and funk weekender I'm glad I was too young for Wigan ! What it turned out to be was nothing more than a 70's/80's disco. I'm sure someone will correct me and tell me I'm a complete arse but I don't think there were more thant about 4 or 5 northern soul tracks played on saturday night, hense my no-show on Sunday. Playing stuff like 'oops upside your head' and 'cha cha slide' Whats that all about ? and to charge 10tl entrance when it was only 10tl to see a top act like Funky Monkey, I came away feeling we had been had.

Big Mart, they probably needed a proper soul DJ , I have done my own gigs in London with Caister DJ's Gary Dennis/ Little Pete Mick Farrer Frostie and other Soul DJ's from Monumental Soul/Solar Radio to name a few,I guess it depends who you are playing too, if its locals I guess it's hard to please everyone and find the best balance of music and no doubt the best intentions was to try and get a good party atmosphere going , maybe they should of asked people what northern tracks they wanted on the forum to get an idea . It's good to see that people have tried to put on a party and bring some Soul music to the Island and I guess it's a learning curve, but yes Ooop's upside your head is a cheesey tune , but some people and children seem to like it. I would be happy to send you some Northern choonage and Soul tracks on CD Big Mart.
