Coachie, As a Scot I am ashamed of Gordon Brown, free car parking in hospitals in Scotland not in England! And all the other decisions he has made pro Scots. Ultimately Gordon Brown was behind the decision. (the Scottish office who are answerable to him ) What was or is his ulterior motive??????????????? Personally I would have left the b....d in the dungeons of Edinburgh castle to rot in hell!!! but no they put him in Barlinea prison so he had a cushy time. Now he goes home to a heros welcome on compasionate grounds. Where was his compasion when the Pan am flight went down!!!!!!!

He was not in Barlinnie, but in Greenock. Get your facts right! If Gordon Brown was behind the decision, how come the leader of the Labour party in Scotland, ex-first minister, has strongly critisized the decision? We may never in our life-time know the full truth, but I for one am glad we steered free of American pressure, whoever took the decision, with all their hypocrasy. Few years' time they will be embracing Gaddafi and Libya (for the oil)

It's always about oil. What's the future of a dying arab, who may or may not have been guilty, worth when set against billions of pounds worth of business. Just now I think he should have been kept in jail until he died, but next year, in 10 or 20 years, who will remember the why's if we all have money in the bank. Get real, it's the end that counts, not the means to the end.

The thing that worries me about Colonel Gadaffi is that he's been President of Libya for 40 years and he's still only a Colonel. Well before this time, Idi Amin was a full Field Marshall.

This was purely a political decision....there are many ppl who do not believe he was guilty, I do not know enough about the case to form an opinion, however when I hear Dr Jim Swires saying he was innocent and should have been released even though he lost his daughter in this dreadful dreadful crime it makes me wonder if this man was fitted up for the crime..I doubt the truth will ever emerge but somewhere down the line GB, TB and Mandelson were involved as like all things connected to the Arab world and the north African nations it is definately about oil and energy.

The Justice system in the UK (including scottish law) is constitutionaly completely independant of political pressure. However I think that the Salmon and Brown seem to be on the same wavelength in this matter and innapropriately applied pressure to release him. Scottish Justice found this man guilty of a heinious crime in a court of law. His appeals appeals against the verdict were turned down. Unless further evidence comes to light proving him innocent, then he is still guilty under the law. He did the crime and should serve the time. His release only encourages further violent acts of terrorism.

Newlad ..exactly..there are so many people on here in the know and privvy to all sorts of info I cannot understand why they are not politicians. Its going to be wet and windy tomorrow are you all going to blame Brown for that..The fact is if he did put pressure on the Jocks what can you do about it ..nowt.So stop belly aching..Wait till the other lot get in and we will really see some dirty tricks pulled, but I suppose that will be "for the benefit of England". You were all saying "good old Ronnie Biggs gets out,and he seems to be doing very well" He was implemental in the death of a person through greed, but I suppose thats ok is it.The only positive thing about Lockerbie is there were 278 people killed but the concensus of opinion by a lot of people was that he was not responsible. If there was any shadow of doubt about the verdict I think the Jocks did the right thing..He already has a death sentence on him...
