Last weekend Starling supermarket in Catalkoy opened. They had fireworks to celebrate.

The staff are very friendly and the prices are very reasonable. It seems to be more reasonable on most products than tempo, supreme and lemar. It also has better fruit and vegetables by far.

Why does Starling have to have such rediculously large red signs? You can see the Catalkoy one from Bellapais Abbey at night.

joandjelly - couldn't agree more. The signs are an absolute eyesore! The Starling in Alsancak has a huge sign in red, too - blot on the landscape isn't in it! Having said that, do like Starling for shopping.

Pipie, the new shop is on the main Catalkoy-Alagadi road, a few hundred yards past the Malpas Hotel turnoff. Sultan's Restaurant is dead opposite it on the other side of the road.

Starling Catalkoy is a much smaller shop than Supreme. Yes their Veg' is good like the Starling In Girne, but apart from that I shall continue shopping in Supreme. Far more choice & a deli counter too. I haven't found that Starling is cheaper either.

I too hate the red neon sign. I can see it from my house as well.

Just returned from NC. some of the fruit we bought at Starling was poor when we cut into it. Clean supermarket but give me Supreme anytime.

The new improved Starling just openened and well worth a visit.

Supreme also, and the Cafe next door.

Sausages in the fridge include the full monty Lincolnshire.

Big effort all around.

Tried the new Starling twise, the second time the vege was quite old and spoiled, I am presuming that their turnover is not great enough to keep the fresh deliveries up like the one in Girne or Lapta. Whilst generally a nice shop, I can see no reason to move away from Supreme plus a weekly visit to the wed market.

The next Starling is going to have its sign painted on the mountain, next to the TRNC flag as they think the current one is a bit too discreet.

I rate Supreme as the best Supermarket, but I do use the little Starling for odds and ends as I live in Girne,

But the meat and deli counter in Supreme takes some beating

Astro in Alsancak is closing-down. Surprised it lasted as long as it did...

Vaughan

I would think the next one to close will be Astro in Girne

Nearly all the shelves were empty, lots of items on special, and items which they usually sell they are either out of stock or dont stock them now.

And their fruit is horrid new piled on top of old

I wouldnt be surprised if that went the same way as their shop in Alsancak

They had a sale last month - whether to shift stock or a last attempt at getting customers in?

Don't know why anyone would want to buy fruit and veg in that area from anywhere else but Ya Belles.

Always top quality and lowest prices when we have shopped there.
