Just found out from a fellow neighbour of TBV that Ikea may be opening in Nicosia this year. Anyone have any details? And if so will we be allowed to bring anything over the border to TRNC?

Yes you can buy things in south and bring to north as long as it is below the allowable cash limit, think about £100. All imported goods are potentially charged import duties of around 40% I believe.

My view as always is why not just buy stuff here, remember to add to cost of items bought in south - petrol, £10 insurance, potential import duties or worse goods impounded!!!!!!

Thanks for that. I will pass on the info to some of the other owners at TBV as they were the ones enquiring about Ikea (plus me too!!).

I guess if we hire a car though in the north and want to drive to Ikea in Nicosia we arent going to be able to take our cars over the border??? Or is the new Ikea going to be near the crossing for foot passengers? I'm all very new to this so any directions or details about this would be great.

Thank you

I don't think Ikea will be within walkings distance from Ledra Palace border crossings.

Also, you can't take a rental car from North to South.

But you can take a rental car from South to North though.. ehh!

Boredhousewife,

I have a friend who has a works van out there. I am sure he will lend/drive it for me. All is not lost we will shop till we drop at Ikea. I am not sure what I am more excited about my new house or Ikea opening!!

Shona - that sounds good!

Izzet - I did think that might be a problem. I wonder how we could go over and bring a few bits back?

I know the problems with car hire from north to south but I dont fancy hiring a car in the south and not having full insurance and if it breaks down that will be a problem too and with two small children it will be no laughing matter (especially for my husband when the kids start ranting!!!!!!!!).

I'm sure there will be a lot of people in the same situation so if anyone knows of a solution please let me know!!! Perhaps we could get a taxi over and a tax back??? Wonder how long it would take to Nicosia (I can't remember when we came over last year) and I wonder how much it would be?

Saw the site yesterday, makes Orphanides look small!!, they claim that it will be opening in August (which year they didnt say!).

Go past Orphanides and turn left at the 2nd Roundabout, go past Nicosia Hospital and you cant miss it.

From home(Kyrenia) generally takes me 45 mins, doubtless be going over when it opens so if you need a car and driver for the day.i'd be happy to help.
