I'm sure someone out there has heard or knows of this place in Catalkoy.

Can anyone enlighten me, is it an Hotel?

Any comments or information would be appreciated.

Thank you all so far for the info, and please keep the good reports coming.

We were due for handover of our property on 01 May, but have just been told by our developers that their office is closed due to May Day Bank Holiday, so our surveyor has kindly booked us in for the night.

I hadn't heard of the place before, and dont recall reading any posts about it, so was a bit worried where he had us staying!

Hello Suntanman

Have just despatched a part-container of goods from London for a couple who are driving over and when they arrive they are booked in at the Fireman's Fez. They have often stayed & describe it as being friendly, cheap, welcoming, clean - comfortable - they just like it there!

I'll just miss you - going on the 20th April & coming back to sunny Doncaster on the 27th - so all the best if we don't speak before hand.

Best regards

Jo

This used to be called the Firemans Fez because when it first opened it was run by Hayal & Dave, Dave being an ex London fireman. A great couple, but Dave, silly boy, got caught playing away. Hence the fireman part was dropped, as was the ex-fireman. It's still run by Hayal and a nicer person you could not meet, she's got a real dirty laugh. Good food & great atmosphere.

I'b beginning to like the sound of the Fez: cheap, clean and friendly is good enough for me, and I can smell the food from here!

Looking forward to our stay, and thank again everyone for the info. I'll let you all know what I think of the place on my return.

Jo

If you eat there or just call for a drink - can you use the pool or is it residents only?

Fantastic place the Fez. It's our local as we live "oop ta hill" in Catalkoy. Hayal and her staff have got it just right. Genial conversation, drinks flow and the food is really good. Roaring fire in the winter and really great outside area for the summer months. Can't fault the place. Be carfeful though, once you get in there, you'll get hooked!!

Just returned from TRNC, spent one night at the FEZ prior to receiving keys to our own place.

I have a slight confession, called at Supreme and got a few cans of Efes for the room, and after a a long days travelling, nothing to eat for hours, we just crashed out and missed the evening!

Too exicited the following morning to eat, we didn't manage to sample the breakfast either, only a coffee outside the bar.

Lovely rooms, very clean and in a nice setting, we would recommend.

Met Hayal, a lovely lady and the staff were very helpful, even helped me retrieve something I dropped in the dustbin by mistake.

I agree with peachy its just a pity they dident have to use the helmets the place should be burned down .Clicky lot talking about property, paying to much for drink and poor food and service is terrible.

Hi

On behalf of the majority of Forum devotees, who may be a little 'superior' to a couple of contributors to this thread in that we have good taste, are discerning and know how to behave with decorum, not to mention modesty, I would like to express my support for Hayal and all her superb staff at the Fez. My recent stay there was a complete pleasure, nothing was too much trouble and I feel that I have made friends for life with Hayal & Lorraine.

Sincerely

Jo

I also found this venue quite clicky. I waited for ages to get served while regulars were served before me. I wouldn't bother going back there.

There's obviously sour grapes there Peachy. Since living here i have been into the Fez for drinks with the locals and on occasions i have eaten there and i can honestly say the food and the service was excellent, the staff were very helpful and well mannered and the clicky locals as you put it introduced themselves and made me feel very welcome. The summer entertainment namely" The All New Time Machine"has now started and the place was fully booked for food and the bar was packed with non diners myself included and what a show it was they have a new female singer Verity boy can she sing got people up dancing and singing,Dave(George) and Gazza better than ever,a good night was had by all.You may speak as you find but i think there will be a lot that disagree with you comments and probably best kept to yourself!

I found this was the case with the previous owners. I have not been in recent times but have to say this practice is common in some bars in the uk as well as here.

As a prson who has worked ans managed bars i find the practice abhorant, awink or a word to the regular to let the know you know they are there and or will get to them in due course works wonders.
