Perhaps for his support of the IRA and his genorousity in the amount of money he gave them to murder British soldiers.

But there again he may be remembered for leaving a young girl to drown at Chappaquidick ( Spelling ) as that could have spoiled his chances of being a senater.

Have to agree. I believe the Kennedy family's tragedies are a matter of "what goes around, comes around".

The girl's name was Mary Jo Kopechne. I think she was a teacher.

MSG3

Agreed, had any of the Kennedys lived in N.Ireland during the"troubles" it might have changed their thinking. It is one thing to raise money for the "cause"but another thing to be on the end of what the money buys.

I agree wholeheartedly with the majority of the above comments. Whilst the Kennedy clan has been immersed in tragedy, namely the assassinations of Bobby and JFK, they were not averse to a bit of skullduggery themselves, particularly Teddy Kennedy. Alas, as a previous poster states, what goes around comes around.

Hi Ozbey I have to agree with what has been said. Although I feel very sorry for all the tradgedy they endured I think a lot of sklldduggery re Ireland which is sad. I just wondered if he achieved anything more memorable post all those troubles

There are infinitely more worthy causes deserving of our sympathy than the Kennedy clan.

Well I am sorry when anyone dies. But the Kennedy family did none of us any favors, JFK being the prime example of that.

The Kennedy family fully support Obama, that says it all!

I notice Obama is not visiting the south USA very much, I guess he is worried that he might suffer the same fate as JFK.

I cannot see the hardliner whites in the deep south allowing him to remain President for very long.

This reminds me of my younger punk days when a USA group called the Dead Kennedys were all the rage, though they split in 86, but have since like all good bands, reformed.

Check it out.

His father, Joseph, admired the Nazis.

"His [Joseph's] term as [British] Ambassador and his political ambitions ended abruptly during the Battle of Britain in November 1940, with the publishing of his controversial remarks suggesting that "Democracy is finished in England. It may be here, [in the US]."

Joseph Kennedy also bought JFK's way into politics.

He was, apparently, a very nasty man with his eye only on the main chance, i.e. his son in the Whitehouse. Before anyone says anything, I know positions of power can all be bought at a price. However, I still maintain that the Kennedy clan brought an awful lot of tragedy upon themselves.

JFK..was the biggest war monger in the US history. In one year he quadrupled Americas nuclear arsenal and armed forces.Very nearly started ww3 over Cuba.He did not know that the Russians were testing him having just been elected.

Ted Kennedy will always be remembered for the accident from which he did a runner, not exactly what you would expect from such a high personage is it. He did at least repent on his support of the IRA later on..and his work for the under priveliged in the US was very admirable..I think the families links with the Mafia did not help either....

Coachie - agree with you re JFK. Agree also that Ted Kennedy 'redeemed' himself somewhat in later years by the work he did for the World Health Organisation (or a body like that) and the under-priveledged in the U.S. As you rightly say, two wrongs do not make a right.
