It may be ok for a group of close friends who like to follow each other but I see no sense in it. I believe Obama has millions of followers there. I never checked it. It has been quite some time since I last twittered there

Scooby.....no , you are not alone.

I've never bothered with Myspace , Facebook , Twitter etc.

It may be a good idea if you have friends and family scattered around the Globe, but otherwise I can't see the appeal.

It may be an age thing !

Scoobydoo, the catch is or becomes always the same: read the advertising on the free services. Now or shortly. There are no free lunches when it's about the Internet.

Twitter is for staying in touch and keeping up with friends no matter where you are or what you’re doing. For some friends you might want instant mobile updates—for others, you can just check the web. Invite your friends to Twitter and decide how connected you want you to be.

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS) or external applications. While the service costs nothing to use, accessing it through SMS may incur phone service provider fees.

Twitter is a bit like Facebook. You can 'invite' friends to read anything you may want to say and vice versa.

For quick messages I prefer to text. Email I use for longer messages and Facebook occasionally to catch up with friends.

It's a matter of choice I suppose.

Funny thing happened recently when I was browsing facebook and was looking through my sons list of friends. I came across a photo of another 'mod' on my sons friends photo list. How weird is that? My son doesn't even have a clue who he is.

Twitter became popular for following celebrities who send constant messages via their mobile phone so that fans can see exactly what they are doing at that moment. Was made famous in the UK when Stephen Fry got stuck in a lift and 200,000 people knew it before the emergency services did. Also made famous when activists in Iran could inform the West was was happening during the demos, it was thought to be such a powerful political tool that the regime shut off the mobile phone network in Tehran.

Now for you and me it's a waste of time twittering because very few people are interested in what we do. It's for the kind of people who watch East Enders or watch paint dry.

Hi Mal, you have to look at it from the other perspective...

Twitter is great, just imagine it as the most up to date search engine you could possible have.

If you want to find out what is going on, or what your friends are doing etc,etc it is really good. Eg

Say you were thinking of going to see a new film?

You can get a really good idea of whether it is any good or not by searching for it on Twitter, you'll see the feedback from normal people, not someone paid to say it is good..

You have to give it a go for a bit.. I was wondering what the fuss was all about for a while too..

By the way if you want to follow me, my twitter address is

http://www.twitter.com/lincguide (occasionally I do something interesting!)

=> "East Enders"..?! Objection, your honour (honor)! Plus Coronation Street. And Sun readers. People who just don't want to know the truth of daily life - but want to be entertained in their sad, non-intellectual lives. Their biggest problem: "How's my hair?" and "Everybody seen my tattoo?". In short: "My head is empty, but the outside is impressive, I think". Sigh.
