Did anyone read the article on blood and the BRS on page 3?

The impression given was one of contempt for independant donor lists.

Any thoughts?

I read it and had the same thoughts but to be honest am not surprised. The BRS do think they are a cut above the rest of us. I cant see why they would object to merging the lists, the whole point is to save lives not start being picky because you are not one of them.

Just for the record I was interviewed by Ian Sheppard of Cyprus Today and expected that to be in the paper on Wednesday. When it did not appear I was not surprised and even less surprised when I saw todays article.

Since the 1st of July I think we have achieved a lot (still a long way to go). But we have 56 potential blood donors now on the list and have responded to one call for B+ blood and were able to send 3 donors to Lefkosa.

So thank you all for your support in this and especially to Hans for all his hard work with the data base. We are still looking for a lot more people who can respond in an emergency situation, so keep those details coming.

Thanks

Chris

Blood Donor’s Registry

Lincguide is helping to set up a registry of emergency blood donors in Cyprus. By registering your details, in the event of a life-threatening emergency you may be contacted (a text message from this number 05338415410 ONLY) and asked to donate a small amount of blood which may save the life of someone living in Cyprus.

You will NEVER be contacted on the phone number for any other reason, and your details will NEVER be shared without your permission.

Just think if it was one of your family who needed help in an emergency and fill out the form on this site: http://www.living-in-northern-cyprus.com/review/donors/ .

If you do not know your blood type but would still like to help, enter ‘not known’ in the blood type option box.

I like going to the BRS Blood Donor sessions and have been a regular for some years now. I have also been called by them asking if I would like to give blood at the Lefkosa Kan Bank as someone there was in need of emergency transfusions.

Would'nt having my name on a second donors list cause confusion?

Right you lot out there; it was with the encouragement of this forum that Nursie and DC set up the "alternative register"

Now it seems to have been kyboshed by the BRS (See Cyprus Today) you have apparently nothing to say.

Disappointing to say the least.

Just my opinion.

By the way I am a regular donor and have been for 35 years.

It's new restaurants and bars ("Free drinks at opening night, guys!"), karaoke, pools and taxi's to Larnaca...

O.K. guys, I need a little help to get all this in balance.

I received a Press Release from BRS as would Cyprus Today, and I want to do an article for next week, but can someone give me a Press Release from the new idea? I am just too lazy to search through all the threads on the board. You can write to me by e mail if you like, but I would like to get the whole thing in perspective.

I see that BRS have 380 (I think) on their list and I am sure that Prue Lundie and her team have worked really hard to achieve this. I guess one of the problems is that although BRS have over 1000 members possibly many of them are not eligible to give blood. So, I can see why others consider that another list is a good idea.

So, tell me please, how did this start, what does one do to register; when might one be called, through whom etc etc. Withapologies to Hans and 'Nurseawful' if I should have got all this through my thick head already.

Personally, I think the more good that is done the better, an

oops, I talk too much and ran out of space.

I wanted to say that I appreciate the BRS wish to keep in their own field, but I would like to be able to put in print that there are other ways. But could someone also answer rthe question put earlier 'Would this confuse or clash if on two lists."

Thhere is of course a greater demand for blood as there are a greater number of people needing it, so we all need to playour part. Don't you think.

Thanks in advance for any (sensible) response.
