Just got an e mail from a mate who works in the city....

Apparently the word on the street is that the Turkish base rate is expected to be 6% by the end of the year....

Those of you who came here lured by the 20% savings rates may well be advised to stock up on soil, as it's possibly the only thing you'll be able to afford to eat, if the interest rates keep plumeting.....

Ah well, at least i've got Garry Monger's missus to keep me focussed.....

there was an article a couple of weeks ago regarding the central bank.

Turker Hamzaoglu, a London-based economist for Bank of America Corp.- Merrill Lynch & Co, who forecasts a total of about 9.5 percentage points in reductions before the bank stops cutting. “There’s a window of opportunity for a structural break from moderate inflation to a lower level at around 6 percent.”

Interest rates have always been subject to fluctuation, surely no one expected them to stay at that level long term, one of the reasons it was so high was due to the high level of inflation, as the currency stabilizes the rate has to go down.

Interest rates will possibly go down further until the powers that be are as sure as they can be that the recession is under control, after that i would expect rates to start rising again, at the moment they are being kept artificially low.
