Msg: 5, you said: "I didn't catch a byline for that but surely hundreds if not thousands of victims of some kind of scam or dishonesty is a bit more common than "rare"?"

I said "rare," HBPG said "thousands." Some would say that because Gary Robb's actions affected so many people this distorted the number of building companies which caused problems. Others would say that until PTPs have been received and buyers attempt to obtain title deeds, the true number of victims is unknown.

msg 9: you said, "when is the orams case? you wrote october but i thought it was in november, possibly november 12th?"

I looked for the High Court of Justice Diary but can find nothing on the internet. The only reference I can find is on a GC news service which says the Cyprus Observer (24-30/07/09) reported that the case was 11th or 12th November. Searching the archives of the Observer for those dates reveals nothing so I stuck to the well publicised October 2009!

"This article is not a warning not to buy property in north Cyprus; it’s about what happens in the rare cases when things go wrong."

I too was somewhat surprised by that statement 'in the rare cases when things go wrong'. Your credibility has taken something of a knock.

For your info, Mal has got it right - the dates for the Orams is 12th and 13th November. I have that info from the horses mouth. Unfortunately, looking up the archives of C.Observer on the web is a bit of a waste of time. The person who updated it has 'left the building';

But I can assure you those are the dates, and also in the melting pot may I remind you that the Orams' legal team have gone back to ECJ and asked for a re-hearing based on certain grounds, one of which was the presence of a certain Greek judge was perhaps not the best of ideas, plus the public interest aspect.

The Orams are coming back to Cyprus early in order to get some things done here before going back to London for a briefing etc. Of course IF the re-hearing is granted, this could affect the London case.

As they say, watch this space.

Msg:14 you said, "I too was somewhat surprised by that statement 'in the rare cases when things go wrong'. Your credibility has taken something of a knock."

Hector, you're obviously in possession of information that I am not. Apart from the 1000s of cases that HBPG alleges they know about (but never produces) and the 300+ who applied to the PCO there is no evidence of wholesale miss-selling. I suppose I could join the bandwagon and state that thousands of people have been ripped off but I'd open myself to accusations that I'm making unfounded criticisms of the TRNCs construction industry and perhaps I might have "lawyers" back at my door again threatening to sue me for £200,000. I will look forward to your article based upon the research you have done "Hector" under your real name of course. Sorry to be so blunt but in December 2005, based on Marian Stokes' database, I made just the accusation you suggest I should make. I was then abandoned to sort out the problems this caused.

You are dead right, Malsancak also appears to be using his " paper " to continue his vendetta with the HBPG.

Have you been got at? I know my own situation re miss selling which is good enough for me. I also take note of what has happened to people I know and what I have read in Cyprus Today and on forums such as this one.

Re: Msg 19: you said, "Have you been got at?"

Sorry about the rant last night, I was chopping logs a few days ago and a piece of wood the size of my little finger got stuck in my ankle. It's healing but the pain is excruciating and I'm not too keen on pain killers. I knew when I posted that I was being a bit angry. Thank you for your tempered reply.

I was "got at" 4 years ago by a group of Girne solicitors and this taught me not to fight other people's battles for them if they're not prepared to fight for themselves. I was also taught to try not to make judgements without enough facts to back up that judgement, especially if a court case might be involved later. My current job involves writing reports which might end up being challenged in court.

So far I have evidence of about 40 cases which have not been resolved, some of these cases involve more than a single person. I'd like people to stand up and be counted in the NCFP so that the real scale of the problem is made public.

No, what makes you think that? I believe HBPG has run out of steam and the word "pressure" should be dropped from the title. I can remember the September 2005 meeting when, after being elected along with Marian Stokes as members of the HBPG committee, Bertil Wedin, Stuart Hillard and myself made up that name. The word "pressure" was important. We received information from property victims which allowed us to rate builders, "lawyers" and estate agents on the website so that others would know whether to avoid them. This pressure worked and the government listened. Since then, apart from HBPG threatening to demonstrate outside parliament, that organisation has not put sufficient pressure on builders, "lawyers" and estate agents to stop them from repeating the problems HBPG was set up to prevent. Read "Dreaming On a November Night" in NCFP for proof of that.

Hi BinBlocked9x(and it won't stop there)

The NCFP website is going to be developed to allow instant (moderated) comments and has an archive. Paper newspapers are so last century.

and BB9x, NCFP is now published in the US and, unlike a paper version distributed in north Cyprus, will not be shut down for "star rating" lawyers. I can still remember the response of the Girne lawyer in December 2005 when they were only given 2 stars!

I reckon it's a winner. I'd like the sole right for subscriptions sales and can offer WLAN cables at reasonable prices for the online version. Any takers? Apart from urine that is?

Congratulations on your new publication. Can you do an article on North Cyprus Blood Donors database. Lots of promises from newspapers going to run the story but nothing really (ever) happens. E-mail me if you are interested.
