Any job openings in the Kyrenia area? I am 29 and have been living in North Cyprus for nearly two years. Now due to a change in personal circumstances I need to get a job to be able to stay on the island. I am a professional photographer by trade but also have experience in bar work, catering, and retail. I’m looking for a part-time or full-time job with a work permit. Daytime is preferable and I don’t mind working weekends. English as a first language but can speak some Turkish. I know jobs are scarce but if you hear of anything please can you contact me on susief79@gmail.com CV on request

Try selling yourself Put adverts in the paper/forums etc for photographic work and do anything else to help support this. Make up a leaflet showing your work with your details - Post it anywhere you can - in shops, lampposts, pubs, cafe's etc. Distribute them to people sitting if cafe's, bars etc. If you have limited cash make them smaller and use a good picture. Whilst you are distributing, ask the cafe/bar/shop owners if they have or know of any jobs going-even for a day. Some photographers here are going into nursery schools/playgroups and doing a session. Parents choose if they want their child photographed and this is done in the playgroup/nursery. The photographer takes many shots of the children. They show the photos in the playgroup/nursery a couple of weeks later and the parents can choose to pay for them, get them enlarged (my daughter got an enlargement in sepia) and she paid extra for the disc with the copyright.

Thanks Catherine. The only problem with that is the work permit, or lack of it! And sadly I don't have enough money to set up a business otherwise that's exactly what I'd do - there's certainly a market for it. So unless anyone has a few spare thousands and wants to invest in me, I'm back to looking for someone to employ me in a regular job. Your reply is much appreciated though

Susie All you need to start a business is your photos, a printer/ink and a ream of paper which is 550 pages, Print them on a5 and you get 1100 posters/leaflets, take them around the nurseries, primary schools, playgroups etc. I have worked for 30 years with the unemployed. One thing I have learnt is if you say 'can't' the you won't - try it see what happens. post them where you know you are likely to get a response - I have see some lovely wedding shops over there - ask them to put posters in the changing rooms - I have done this for Slimming World and believe me it works. Go around the harbour on a night and see the family groups who would like to have their photo's together. If you hear of a pub (plenty on here) where their is a group night or special occasion, ask if you can go along and take photos and/or leave leaflets - nothing ventured/nothing gained!!!!! Do nothing you will get nothing.

Msg 4 and 5 Thank you for your kind words - glad you like my photos Thank you again Catherine, I appreciate where you are coming from and believe me I'm certainly trying to make a go of it. I think though you might not appreciate the red-tape concerning work permits here. As far as I'm aware I need either an employer or to have a business. Without either of these any sort of work I undertake could end up with me being deported! There's no point me touting for work if I can't actually fulfill because I don't have a work permit This may see like I'm saying "can't" but I'm trying to stay in Nth Cyprus and to do that I need to be legally above board. I have a few leads which I'm following up but additional suggestions are more than welcome!

| Ah that is really sweet and good advice Katymackem, perhaps Susie you can do both? Get the job, the employer, the work permit but still do some photos on the side when you're free?! Look at the for sale section of this forum there is an ad for telesales which is daytime Mon-Fri I think they are still recruiting, if you go around and ask at bars with your CV am sure there are loads recruiting, not sure if they would supply a work permit though.
