A friend is leaving the TRNC shortly and was wondering how much cash he can take out.

Does anyone know.

From HMO Customs and Excise website.....A person entering from outside of the EU can bring in the equivalent of 10,000 euros..... Not sure if you could bring in larger amounts by arrangement if you have correct paperwork.

Most people leaving the TRNC are lucky to escape with BFH.

Why not transfer through bank, western union or whatever.

May be a small charge but far safer. What happens if customs do stop you and are not happy with what you are carrying, you miss your flight. What happens if you loose the cash, you are not insured!!!!!!!

There is another thread on same theme and I just cannot see the problem of transfering by wire, it is far safer. If you have a very large amount to transfer do it progressivly then you do not have to worry about carrying it.

In excess of 5000 sterling is better to transfer via Bank - most charge 0.3 - 0.5% which is painless on up to #10,000, but painful on #150,000 as I have done in the past - still no other realistic option on large amounts....

I believe the maximum you can take out is $10,000
