Hi folks.

Cyprus44 to date has 7281 members. not sure how many live on this island, but I am sure there are more than 61.



The beginning of July 2009 Dutch Crusader (Hans) and I started compiling a database of blood donors (well DC did the hard work) to be used in emergencies. It came about after public appeals on this forum for blood for accident victims.



As you may or may not know, in the event of an emergency and NO blood of your blood group being available at Lefkosa Hospital Blood Bank. It is then up to you or your friends and family to find donors of the same blood group.



So this is where we come in. Your details will be logged on a database .....

Name

Blood Group

Telephone Number.

Area you Live

Transport available?



This info will NEVER be given or divulged to any third party.



So where does that leave us.!!!

So how does it work?



Well, we here the cry for blood of any group. The people who have that blood group are then sent a text message asking them to respond ASAP (at this stage they will be given a telephone number to respond to) We will then inform them of the patients name only when they say they can go to Lefkosa hospital.



Easy so lets all make a difference and by the end of this week have 70 donors on the database.



If you don't know your blood group still sign on or go to Lefkosa Hospital first building on the right as you go through the enterence , tell them ou want to give a unit of blood, they will then tell you your blood group. Easy.

One day it could be YOUR life it only costs less than 1 hour of your time.

I think I did ask you when I emailed my details but is there a facility here for bone marrow donors? I'm registered in the UK and would be glad to be registered here as a donor if they do such things. Maybe an idea for a new list??? Saying that, so few have come forward to register to give blood you would probably end up with the same people on your list anyway Happy hunting for volunteers.

Booitsme, I don't think there is a register here for bone marrow donors. But I am sure if somebody knows differently we will soon find out.

I have been quiet for a week on this one. But we really do need more donors. Now have posters which will be going up over the next few days thanks to the kindness of Flightholiday Tom who brought them over from the UK with him. So thank you so much Tom for that.
