Going on a cruise down the Nile plus staying couple of nights in Cairo etc. Have had mixed comments about the vaccinations required, has anyone on the forum been to Egypt fron Northern Cyprus and are injections necessary? If so where do you get them done and any idea of the cost?

we went from TRNC to Egypt, Nile cruise, end of February, didn't have any injections, but take plenty of Imodium with you, as we all had bad stomachs and my husband and his friend were still not right until 2wks after we got back. Hygiene a big problem there, such as, we saw people washing salad in the Nile!! REALLY!!

Been to Egypt on three occassions from the UK.Have had all Injections recomended by GP.If you can find a Pharmacy in Luxor before your cruise by your Pharohs Revenge pills there. Our Immodium is no good out there.Going in November and I always buy the local pills and they work every time..

Just make sure that you are up to date with your Tetanus shot (every 10 years) .

Immodium (Loperamide) should work wherever you go in the world sorry Coachie really don't agree that it is no good out in Egypt maybe it just didn't work for you.

if you are unfortunate to have really bad diarrhoea Ossie take 2 Loperamide immediately after the first episode and one capsule after every further episode this should dry it up very quickly. Just be careful that you do not de-hydrate when you have the diarrhoea drink lots of bottled water.

If you are worried about immunisatios phone the UK travel immunisation network on 0141 300 1130.

Immodium (loperamide) didn't work for my husband, (did for me) so they gave him the local tablets on the boat, they didn't work either, they were so worried, they checked him in his room every hour and brewed him special tea, we noticed in the bar on the boat the waiters were swilling the drinks glasses in a bowl of dirty, cold water, we complained to our rep, who got that stopped, their hygiene leaves a lot to be desired!!!!!!!! One good thing, first holiday we've had that we lost weight!!

Did the Nile cruise a few years ago and had no problems at all. I find that mint tea works as well as any drugs for a 'holiday' tummy.
