Ah but are you still serving local spirits from a measure, which you were when you opened.

RE msg 2, MickyFinn: (...) local spirits from a measure (...)

=> Arrrrgh! Local spirits - from bottles possibly bought at neighbouring Atakara? - from a measure..?! In a small glass with a thick bottom..? What's the TRNC coming to?!

Answer the question, are you serving local spirits by optic measure? If so it's outrageous. A bottle of local gin/vodka will cost you 6.5TL wholesale so if you're intending to get 28 shots out of the bottle including a squirt of local mixer at say, 5TL it seems to me gross profiteering.

How is it ripping people off?

I paid £8 in a club the other day for 2 x 25ml shots of house vodka and some coke.

That works out about £160 for a £10 bottle of Vodka.

Don't be so sad Richard, keep going to the bars that serve quadruple drinks for 2TL, you might be happy then!

But when they go out of business, where will you go then?

Those bars will stay in business as they'll have 'bums on seats'. Glad your millions allow to frequent clubs at such prices. What were the girls like?

The girls were great!

Do you need millions to pay "those prices"?

I don't think so!

I will go where ever there is a good atmosphere.

On here, it seems the first thought about choice of bars/restaurants is "How much?"

The drinks at Queen Bar are not measured by an optic or any other form of measuring! They are free poured, and when i did them, they were more than reasonable!! 6TL for a local and mixer and 10TL for an import with mixer! The draught efes is measured and costs 3.50TL for a pint. Enjoy

Quite right too. 3TL bottle Efes 50cl at Cafe Paris and at 2 gallons a day makes a difference and in addition, it's in staggering distance of home! Is "How much?" your opening gambit when approaching a young lady? I have a lot to learn from you!

Brty you are so right . The first question I am often asked by expats is How much is your wine how much is the beer. All the prices are displsayed. Soe forget the difference from a spermarket to a restaurant wherby you pay rent rates electric staff laundry etc. It all has to be taken into account. I am very heavy handed with spirits and somehow get 8 or 9 shots out of a bottle. I do however think optics should be used now with the drink driving in place here xxx

To all, you would not expect supermarket prices for wine or beer in restaurants in the UK, so why would it be any different any where else? Like Lilli said they have overheads like any business.

We visited the Cyprus Queen every day on our way back to Karsiyaka for 2 weeks. The service was excellent, the staff are warm and friendly, THE DRINKS WERE VERY GOOD. The meals were excellent I had the most wonderful Spag/bol for 6tl. They ensured that we were confortable by means of bringing out a large fan when I started to use my small one. We said we liked the music and the next time we were in it was played again. They have a wonderful family of kittens Ginger, Tiger & Sooty (My names for them and Mam). Sooty is the runt but very cute and loves running up the tree over the bar and catching whatever he can get (if the food comes the others kick him out of the road-up the tree he is brilliant). Everytime we entered we were warmly greeted. Afterdrinks and meals, they checked to see if everything is oK. We bought drinks in the Hilton in Manchester-one brandy & coke and one beer-cost £11+ in Istanbul airport the same drinks cost £14+. I'd pay for the Queens Hospitalily any day

Nothing wrong with the Corner Bar (If i say it long enough maybe they will change the name back) spirit measure or the price of drinks, or the staff, or the customer care.

I was very reticent when it first opened (hard act to follow was Jan) and i was quite critical I am glad to have been proved wrong, Hakim is a good host as are the ladies behind the bar.

Well done !!!

I second that. The beer at 3.5TL must be a loss leader and the spirits with mixer are served at about 50-50 spirit and mixer - no wonder Hippo likes it there.

The landlord is a very nice chap and the ex-Warsaw Pact barmaids take a lot of beating in the eye-candy stakes, too.

AJ,

Never been there at lunch time during the week and you may have to stay sober 'till 5 o'clock to see the barmaids.
