Went there the other night really looking forward to a * special*, known in our house as cow pie, we've visited this restaurant for years and always had good value for money, what has happened.

There was always lovely bread and a small meze while waiting for your meal, the meal was always served with salad and chips, but now there is no bread or meze, the *special* came with a small plate of salad and , after asking, a very small plate of frozen chips, to be shared between four of us. The cost of this, without drinks, was 25TL each, hardly value for money, there are other places where you can get a really nice meal for less than that.

It's sad when this happens at a restaurant, people will just stop going, so if it's done to boost profits then I feel it's a backward step.

The owner of the place was there, as he usually is, so it was not just a case of an off night.

The owner and long time waiter Erdogan fell out earlier this year, and Erdogan left. The place seemed to lose its atmosphere after that. I always associated Bizim Hans with Erdogan. Seems the place has changed.

Yes it's changed, for the worse, such a shame. The long time waiter was always pleasant and helpful, the young lady in there the other night really didn't want to be bothered, she just wanted to sell us drinks. There were always local people in there but even they seem to have deserted the place, it will be a while before we go back.

We ordered two pides from there last month, they said they could not deliver so I said I would go there and collect it. When I got back and opened the food and realized instead of the pides we ordered there were two pizzas. So we called and asked them to please prepare our pides and I would take the pizzas back. The woman I spoke to was exteremely rude telling me it is not possible unless we are willing to pay for the pides and when I pointed out to her that I have already paid and the fact that they gave us pizza was not our fault as we did not want pizza! She said I should have opened them and checked them before taking them away and said "and what do you expect me to do with those pizzas I can not sell them to anyone" We were very upset and told them we would not be buying from them ever again and would not recommend it to anyone and she simply said "suit yourself". We could not believe their behaviour and will certainly not be getting any food from them again!

Its like mud pie but different!! Usually a whole cow gets put into a pie and cooked in the oven with its horns poking out the top!!!

That's right dizzycows....that is why you have to order it a day or so before so they know how many are coming...like with Kleftiko.

They then know whether to use a small cow or a large cow.

Don't think I read the Beano or Dandy since I was a child and Desperate Dan used to eat them

Don't fancy it myself and can't imagine Bizim Han serving it. I have had meze and usual local dishes

there, but not aware they did such things as cow pie!

Cow Pie is the name we use , as a joke in our family, to describe the Bizim Han special. What it actually is, or more to the point used to be, is a oval dish of sizzling chunks of chicken cooked in a tomato, onion and mushroom sauce and covered with a bread type topping.

What we were served the other night was a oval dish containing three rolls of chicken and very little else.

Is that a NC resp? as we usually call cow pie, beef steak, onions done in short crust pastry? or old resp for cow meat, re cow pie, as cows are usually a lot older than the beef in the shops. Beef being usually under 3yrs of age, cows any thing up to 12/15 yrs age. Hence a lot of cooking!

I think the lady serving in Bizim Han is his daughter, who has a lovely name, which I can never remember, unfortunately.

Personally I never eat beef, old or otherwise, too much danger of contracting CJD, otherwise known as Mad Cow Disease, one can never be too careful.

As I recall the pie was chicken and mushroom.

Does anyone else remember that Desperate Dan used to shave with an axe?

Yes he did shave with an axe, forgotten that, we have most of the Beano and Dandy annuals and the grandkids still love the old books the best. LOL

I remember when I was small and my mother was ill in bed, so dad collected myself and sister from school.

All the way home we pestered him what was for dinner and he kept saying he had made us a cow pie like Desperate Dans. Sure enough out of the oven he produced a meat and potato pie complete with pastry horns coming from the crust. We thought it was brilliant (I still do!).

Many years ago when I was first starting my career I worked with a young boy who had profound learning disabilities, he also displayed extreme challenging behaviour at times. He was obsessed with Desperate Dan and one lunchtime he got it in his head that he wanted cow pie, he began to get more and more agitated and vocal so we knew we were heading for a full scale blow up. Thankfully lunch that day was sausage and mash, one of the staff very quickly put a pile of mash on a plate and stuck in two sausages like cow horns, she offered the " cow pie" to the youngsters and low and behold he sat down and tucked in without any further problems. Saved by the pie !!!!!!

It certainly wasn't the owners daughter when we were there, this young woman didn't really give two hoots about customer service.
