Electricty bills for July and August will have no doubt shocked a few people, especially those who rent out their property to holiday makers. If you don't want a repeat of this next year, contact me on vaughan@sunnycyprus.net

Very good idea Vaughan. How much does it cost to buy and install them and what is the rating i.e. how many amperes?

These meters cost 300 pounds, supplied and fitted. Usually only 1 is needed per villa/appt. These meters can handle up to 100Amperes, i.e. more than enough. We can either run the a/c and/or water heaters through the meter or the whole property. We have recently fitted 10 of these meters and the owners are very pleased with them. Payback time can be one month in summer.

Why is the cost 300 pounds for one of these meters, it seems very high to me?

How much do you buy them in for?

How long does it take to fit?

Where are these meters made?

How much profit is made per meter?

Hope you don't mind answering my questions, just very interested.

Mindy,

Why would Vaughan want to tell you such commercially sensitive information?

You would'nt go into McDonalds for a burger and expect such information to be forth coming.

Mindy,

If you went into a shop to buy something and asked the same questions, what do you think the answers would be?

I am interested in your comment "Why is the cost 300 pounds for one of these meters, it seems very high to me?"

On what do you base this "feeling"?

I believe that you can pay Kib Tek about 500TL or 200 pounds (I stand to be corrected) for a mains meter that won't ever belong to you. Doesn't this seem high to you? If so, doesn't it make my meters seem very competitive?

May I dare to suggest that you can buy these with very little research on the net for around £90 / £120 and I am sure if you cant fit them yourself there are plenty of qualified people like Elko who could do it for under £50

Ok then TRNC Vaughn, why won't you say how long it takes to fit these meters. If your hourly charge for fitting was say 15 pound per hour, say it takes 2 hours, am I right in thinking the meters cost at least 150 pounds to buy wholesale including import tax. Even less if the above poster is right and you can get online for 90 pounds. Good profit to be made I think...

I would not and who said that I am qualified to do that sort of work? I cannot draw a straight line on paper and even less chance to fix a wire straight on the wall. If you don't believe me, ask my misus or Monger's misus for that matter

On a serious note, prices are always a matter of supply and demand. There are also lots of hidden costs and sometimes you have to make a good profit to cover your losses on another item. You are not going to pay Vaughan 300 pounds if you can find it for say 200 pounds elsewhere. Would you buy it from him if he proves it to you that it cost him 250 pounds? Of course not, you look for best price to buy and he will look for best profit. Its a deal when the two sides meet.

NO I do not have to buy one, all I can think is people have money to burn if they think this is a good deal.

I thought we had a global recession.... silly me.

Mindy,

Perhaps you might like to tell us about your background? Were you ever in business? If so, didn't you have overheads like an office, electricity, rates, phones, vehicles, etc? Do you understand the difference between gross and nett profit?

As to whether people have money to burn, they need only look at their electricity bills after guests have stayed. My meter can pay for itself in a month during summer, so I think it IS a good deal.

For some people it might be worth the investment if they rent out their property and get very large electricity bills and for others who only use their property as a holiday home or like lots of people use their electrict sparingly then it would take a long time to recoup their outlay,so not such a good purchase.

My msg was not to offend you but just state the obvious..if you like it you buy it, if not you do not.

re mess 21, silverfox: I cannot see that vaughan is "pompous, discourteous and demening to other people on this board" serious.

To this discussion:

I think others should be silent until THEY can offer a competative product for the same price with the same service and quality, as a REGISTERED TRNC comp. To search something on the internet is not a valid argument.

On this board, there is lots of helpfull info, but also lots of "wrong guidance" These "shouters" mostly dont have a "clue" whats going on, how business cost are etc... If they think, that something is to costy, they complain an call it: "TRNC style business.." This is rude and puts all, who are not offereing the "cheapest crap for non profit" into the same box as "cheaters, betrayers, greedy" But this is not true. Nobody forces you to buy any of the offered products here. But if you do so, be sure that you get the best service and quality, as we all have a reputation which can be lost easily on such forums.

cont: to search somehing on the net is easy, you will find the chaepest offered product. But, now, you need to get it here, - As we are not smuggeling you have following costs and need official papers: You need to get you permissions from the electrical board, import licence for your company, pay your taxes, your duties, stopaj, GKK payı and more hidden cost, such as cusoms clearance and touchdown money for Ercan airport. THY also charges something but I dont know what its called. So, now you must pay your staff, your company expenses, cars, fuel, office etc etc.. do I need to count more? If you sell stuff on the internet you can cut lots of these cost, and in other countries you dont have most of these cost. So, please stop comparing items found on the net with items sold in TRNC. Find the same one in TRNC and post the price, this would be a realistic comparisson! - not the untis sold in Timbuktu / big onlinestore with nearly no running costs in the states / china / where ever...

msg 21

Please show me an example of where I have been:

"pompous, discourteous and demening to other people on this board"

and I will apologise.

There is a problem with high electricity costs in TRNC. People rent out property and are rewarded by big bills. This effects their bottom line. I have a solution to this situation which I am offering to people. I am not in the business of justifying the breakdown of my charges - any more than any other business would.

I had meters fitted to my A/C's in May this year and they have certainly reduced my leccie bills to a more acceptable figure. Stops people leaving them on 24/7 even when not in the villa, otherwise they have to pay for it themsleves!

If yoy rent why not fit a card meter.you supply a cards worth say £20,00 each to your letee and you set the tarrif on the meter so as you make as much as 15% they hand back any cards they dont use you give them a refund but at least they have paid for the electric they have used and your not out of pocket. if you need any further info contact me on +447831110606

Smity,

"...you set the tarrif on the meter so as you make as much as 15%..."

There is no suggestion that anyone should make any profit in re-selling electricity. Indeed, in the UK there are strict rules about that. The idea here is only to help the landlord cover some of his costs, particularly the big bills which they could face after unrestricted use of a/c by holiday let tenants.

One would still need to take into account the VAT on electricity and the standing charge ("maktu ucret") on the bills. Also, a fair balance between the different tariffs.

I can programme the meter for any tariff including multiple tariffs similar to Kib Teks and include VAT and standing charges. These meters would be ideal for hotels with annexes Gordon.

I bought an inline meter for 50 Euros. Once a month I check (when the elctricity bill has arived) how many units the pool has used x 0.30 TL. Divided by 4 for the four owners of the communal pool.

Wouldn't such a meter be a cheaper way to control excessive use of electricity?

Hi DC,

The meter you have is known as a check meter. This is just for "checking" the electricity company (Kib Tek) meter or for metering an individual circuit, in your case a pool pump. It does not control how much electricity is used nor does it collect any money to pay the bill with.

The idea of a credit pre-payment meter is it enables a pay-as-you-go way of using a/c. Compare it to a mobile phone - if you had a guest who wanted a phone for a week or two, would you lend him a contract phone or a pay-as-you-go phone? With a contract phone he could run up a huge bill which you would get at the end of the month. With a pay-as-you-go phone he can make as many calls as he likes and he pays for them, not you.

Vaughan,

Your offer seems a good one and will save landlords a lot of money over time. It will make users more careful when having to pay for what they use.

It seems so sad one can not offer a product without some chump asking daft question and in my opinion being rude to you. If you offered the whole package for £5 someone would still ask you t o justify it, where you get your goods from and are you paying TAX!

Good luck mate.

Hi Tiggy and DC,

Thanks for your support.

We know this is a good product which does exactly what it says on the tin.

It is a shame that some folks always try to look for the downside of things, but on this occasion we have more supporters than detractors.
