Just thought I would share this with you all as I was never told but now there is an English girl working in the Turkcell shop in Girne (yes, they hired someone there at last!) who explained to me that as we only use the internet to check emails and read the newspaper online etc and don't bother to download anything, the 60tl a month 4 gigabite is enough for us! So no need to worry about the 10one that has gone up to 90tl, that has saved us some money, wish I knew that was available months ago!

:0) it's great when people are helpful and offer a good service, not just trying to get the most money out of you that they can!

I was never offered that package before!

If that is all you use it for then why not look at the TelSim package that gives you 3 Gb a month for 45 TL? Not that I want you to change as it will increase useage and slow my connection - but just thought I would share it with you guys anyway!

msg 9 my impression was that you really shouldn't download much at all, there is a limit so that if you download too much your internet will be cut off, as I said it's good if you just check emails, visit websites and read the paper online etc

RE msg 11, NatAless: (...) check emails, visit websites and read the paper online etc (...)

=> NatAless, be careful! Visiting web sites and reading papers etc etc ALL mean you are downloading. Everything you see on your screen (mail program or web browser) must first be... downloaded to your computer!

well mine has lasted nearly the whole month actually with the 60tl 4 gigabite option, just 3 days less than a whole month, so all fine even with downloading a few youtube videos and going online-myself and my partner every day to check emails, newspaper etc! Definately worth it & will not get any higher option in the future anymore!

hi guys

there is a alternative option if you dont want to spend the 150tl on a modem, you can go for the extent wifi hotspot option all you do is go into any lemar or any comp shop buy the voucher for 29tl a month and everytime u go on the net you type in the user name and password and away you go, coverage is very good and it works out so much cheaper than the turkcell option but also depends where you are if you in the middile of the villiage surrounded by just cows and sheep the speed might suffer a bit lol

hope this helps

We pay 75 tl a month with Bayoz up in the village and lovely guys BUT the server is crap.

hi mitsi

thank you for your comments, ok i presume you got turkcell 3g, now if you are in the villiage a bit of distance away from a base station your signal will suffer one thing to check is to look at the program where u connect look at the signal if its not hsdpa then your connection speed will be slow, if you are saying that it wos ok b4 and now it is suffering theres a few things you could do first try deleting and reinstalling the software this might clear it up or take the sim out of the dongle and clean it using a eraser if all fails take it back to the turkcell shop and get them to check the dongle it might be faulty if that fails throw it away!!!! lol

you could try and getting them extend wifi hotspot vouchers but like i said if you are in the remote part of the villiage this will not work try turning on ur wifi and do a search if it comes up then u will be ok to use it

hope this helps

regards

Thanks again will give it a try but today not so bad. Complained bitterly to them yesterday so fingers crossed. Just frustrating that the cost is so high for something that is really quite inferior to the Broadband we were getting in a remote area of UK, where we couln't have the gold or platinum, had to settle for Silver and it was excellent so how good must the others be.

we use the 60 lira package and last the month plus one day. turkcell increase the price last month so we though to try the 4g package and work fine. we read the board, watch you tube check the bank and e-mail. turkcell did us a favour by increasing the price!!

Someone asked the cost of the dongle from ~Telsim. Answer 129tl - same price as 3G in U.K. But what I cannot find out is how long and how much is 1gb which is what I bought for a kick off. I already have a router and broadband, so got the dongle for when I am away from home. It also is bettert than my ISP which frequenlty disappears into cyberspace, or goes to some one else' computer.

So, I havde 1gb - has ANYONE idea how many e mails in and out that amounts to. This is my first month of experiment, and I kinda feel I may have used half of it in three days.

Any help out there?

Incidentally, I also have a dongle for U.k and when I go I pay my £10 for a month which is for everything, and limitless - so here is very much a new ball game.
