A freind of ours in Lapta broke her leg (femur) recently. She is recovering slowly and they have hired a wheelchair from the hospital for her.

The problem is going to the toilet - she can get there but the toilet is a bit low to get on!

Does anyone have one of those orthopedic toilet seat raisers like they supply to hip replacement patients back in the UK?

If anyone can help or knows where we could get hole of one of these we'd be very grateful

Hi I am not sure but there is a medical aids shop almost opposite Dano bakery in Girne. Pass Lemar on your left. Round about turn left and its just there on right before the traffic lights. Hope they can help.

RE msg 1, MaggieAndBernie: (...) medical aids shop (...)

=> There's a big medical aids shop in (walled) Lefkosha also. If you need to go there, let me know and I'll send you a map - no directions needed, just a red dot. Click this URL http://is.gd/3bWjk or mail hansdoeleman@allcrusades.com or

Thanks Msg 2 & 3 will have to resort to that if no one has one on top of the wardrobe or under the bed! Trouble is I don't think these places will be open Sundays and it's quite a long way to go to find the shop shut!

Lefkosha medical aids shop is definitely shut on Sundays. In this emergency: why don't you try (to hire?) one in one of the Girne hospitals or private clinics? Check the Buzz book (paper or on line) for addresses and phone numbers.

Thanks everyone so far especially banjo & jolly roger for your kind offers of help - I'll hang on today in case anyone happens to have one they can loan out and contact you tonight if we don't manage to get one that way - obviously the expense is an issue as this couple are already paying out £45 a week for wheelchair hire from the hospital in Lefkosa.

Have you tried the vicar at the church in Girne. I heard he has helped people in your friends situation. I think he helped Daisy Dukes when she had her accident. The church contact number is in Cyprus today, You don't have to be a member of the church, He is a true Samaratin.

Hi Maggieand Bernie,

If I was out there in Cyprus I would help!! OK Any Good Plumbers out there that have dealt with this situation before? What needs to be done is the whole toilet pan be raised by at least 3 inches, this can be achieved by cutting a piece of blockwood and placing it under the main base of the pan.

It may also need a flexi waste pipe connector fitted as well to accomodate the difference of raising the pan if that makes sense.

There must be someone that understands this and that can help...?....YES?..

A good Deed is required here come on Chaps....!

Like I say Im not out until the end of October at the earliest otherwise would gladly help Free of Charge!

Awe thanks for that Nunu - You're idea is great and if we're lucky a friendly plumber may come forward in the morning - if not we're off to the medical supplies shop to hand over some dosh - my poor friend (I'm not naming her to save her blushes) needs to 'go' and soon! lol

If u have no luck with the raised seat try putting a folded towel on the lid of the toilet and then a bedpan. This will raise it a bit. Your friend will need help to get on and off incase it tips. Or put the bed pan on a normal chair. I know it means emptying it etc but better than risking dislocation. What about a commode ? You can get ones that wheel over the toilet as well as having a pan inserted underneath(removable when fitting over toilet)

Just to say we went to Lefkosa today and bought one of those frame seats that goes over the ordinary toilet - our friend was thrilled and says she will put the flag up if/when succesful! ha ha

Many thanks to all on 44 who gave advice & tried to help!
