In UK we had Red, Yellow and Blue to indicate the three phases used in Electricity. Black for neutral and Green/Yellow for earth.

Now it is officially Brown, Black and Grey. Blue for neutral and Green/Yellow for earth.

In China (we cannot ignore them since they make everything), it is Yellow, Green and Red. Light blue for neutral and Green/Yellow for earth. More usual than not, they are not fussy about colours and they will use anything they have in stock

When you buy well known European or American brands, where do you think most of them are made? You can get good or bad stuff made in China, they cater for all.

Henrik,

In the old days it was RED for earth in Germany and RED for Live in UK. Cyprus followed UK and Turkey followed Germany. So immediately after 1974 some settlers from Turkey had a few serious accidents here in Cyprus and they learned the hard way. As far as I know, fortunately there were no fatal accidents but colours is really a serious matter. I will not touch even green/yellow wire without measuring it first and I never use a "control" screw driver, never trust them.

thats true, even after measuring - I contact them to each other - to see if theres still something going on.. after that I glue a piece of paper where I write, L1, (L2), N, E. thats it. I think the red in germany is also old (or new??) because when I see the cables here in my german appartment, they are blue, brown and green!!

Brown, Blue and Green/Yellow is the international standard now for single phase.

Brown- for live,

Blue-for neutral,

Green/Yellow- for earth.

There is an easy way to remember all this.

bRown goes to the Right of the plug.

bLue goes to the Left

Green/yellow is of course earth, plants are first green and afterwards they become yellow, all to do with Earth.

Correct Elko ~ People, PLEASE don't take me seriously, this was just an old method used to see if small batteries had any life in them..............I was just joking and didn't really think that anyone would take it serious, but I suppose you never know on here, please forgive me.
