I updated my Explorer to 8 and I am beginning to like it. Two new features that I noticed are:

1. Suggested sites: it suggests other similar sites to those you have been visiting,

2. Immediate privacy settings: you can turn off the cookies etc so that it will not keep a record of the sites you visited. Not that I would ever use it but who knows, naughty naughty

The one thing that bugs me about IE8 is the number of websites that I have to run in "Compatability Mode". Before doing such a huge overhall of IE, Microsoft should have tried to make websites update themselves to run IE8 properly, or better still just left IE7 alone!!

God help us next year when Windows 7 comes out. I've lost enough £30 and £40 games that aren't Vista compatible and have big problems keeping 'Office 2000' running. I really don't want to start forking out another £100 for Office 2007 or its replacement next year when I originally paid £80 ten years ago for a programme. My programmes should last a lifetime, not a couple of years!!

=> And without any doubt the fastest rendering browser in the world for both platforms, PC and Mac (try Google for reliable statistics). However it's not the best browser for Macintosh, which is Camino 1.6.9. Develish fast.

Hi DC

Google Chrome is by FAR the fastest browser to load on my 5 yr old desktop pc [pentium 4] :(

Safari / Firefox seem the same (noticeably slower ) with IE8 MILES behind - really on an older PC IE8 is a JOKE

I must try Safari on the newer laptop..

Hi 6xm: Pentium 4..? Tsk... As you well may know: Safari (4.0.3 for Mac) is originally built for 64bit capable computers. You won't believe how it behaves on a modern PC-laptop/Mac-(Power)Book.

P.S. Have you not received my emails?! Still in the UK?

Thanks for the offer Richard, but after using the 2007 version of Office I just don't like it. To many tabs and all that 'soft focus' blue stuff lifted from Vista, I really hate it. Office 97, 2000 and 2003 and very happy to use but they are not stable on Vista.

As for Safari, well I did try it, but I'm getting sick of it updating itself every 4 to 6 weeks along with iTunes. So I really don't bother with either now. Just download my MP3's from Amazon or Tesco, or sometimes Pirate Bay with Bit Torrent.
