All of the above really Hatti. I wouldn't bother if it was purely info about NC. I think there needs to be humour and banter to keep people interested and coming back. I don't mind a bit of moaning and arguing now and then as this is what happens in real life. Just doesn't need to be too personal. Would like to see some of the mods being a bit more impartial but that's human nature I suppose.

In summary, I don't think it needs to change.

Seems fine to me already. Sharing information is probably the most important thing on a forum as I guess that's their primary purpose. Fun and banter is a close second though. I don't post much but I love to read some of the funny posts and jokes. And these if anyone could help......

A little more rain (at night obviously!!)

Keep it up guys, Cyprus 44 is a thoroughly enjoyable place to visit.

More tolerance of difference and respect for others views.

More informed debate with less personal criticism.

More information on day to day living - how to get involved in local issues (what do retired people do with their time?)

More information regarding social events - classes - groups - opportunities to get involved and meet people, for example.

I have just joined and find these boards very informative

I would like to see as much infor as reasonable without bringing the boards into legal argument as possible

how people have done things and if they had the time again what if anything they would do diffrently to make things run a tad more smoothly for themselves ect

Things to do for the folk that are already in TRNC is good and also for us wanting to come out as it tells you what there is ect

I am really happy i found these boards

How many of the 7346 members have singular membership ?

How many are banned from posting ?

How many have requested their membership be terminated ?

How many have never ever posted ?

As the old saying goes there are more questions than answers................

Members are allowed to slag of businesses without moderation or a shred of proof, and some mods take against other businesses for networking without a breach of the rules, a level plying field for all would be A GOOD START.

When put on the spot it does not help when members are told by mods / admin if you do not like it hen tough ( or words to that effect )

-----------

NOTE BY IZZET: I am not sure why you want to know the numbers. If you really want to know, send me an email. I don't find this posting of yours relevant to the topic.

Hi all,

I count myself as one of the original posters on this forum. I really miss some of the old members posting

I know what happened, this forum was a victim of it's own success and some of the new members that joined about a year ago were just rude and some of them were bullies. They had no tolerance and could not see anyone elses point of view but their own. They got in to slanging matches with other members until, one by one they stopped posting. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but it is just that, your opinion and may not be what someone else shares. A little while ago I posted a couple of replies on a thread and I thought I was helping. I received a threatening email on my private email address by a regular female poster here. I didn't post for a while and I think that this is what has happened to a lot of old members. This should not happen and we should all be able to post without this, we should all learn tolerance and be allowed to agree to disagree.

Things seem to have gone from bad to worse ever since Mackaozy joined in, to me that is when the forum began to change. It would be good if we could try to get it back on track and return to what it was set up for.

the butler, so sorry to hear of your threatening email, this is another reason why I have not put up my true id, it is a sad things cannot be said to each other on here, ....we dont agree, ....then get on with it. But some like to take it further, and try and stop you from posting, which again is not their right.

You should name the person to Izzet and show him the proof. Then the nice lady should be banned. I have a good idea who it is.

The forum is going pretty well. that's until we get the sad brigade from C-F sending in the same old troops to try and disrupt things.

That when someone asks a question, other members try to answer it. Instead of it being hijacked, or people giving silly comments or trying to score points or insulting other members.

Discussion and dibate is healthy, sarcasim, rudeness and adults behaving like children in the playground is such a waste of time

I have found the forum to be very informative for the most part however some of the threads do tend to get out of hand between several perties and imo the mods should control them a little more but I would ask that the mods give a better reason than this thread has been addressed when closing them.

As an example, a recent debate about a new TV service which was questioned but never answered with any detail thet turned into attacks about personal lifes. I will admit it was humorous but it could be seen very early that it was going nowhere.

I have been a member for several months now and thanks to many of the members for their advice my family and I are now living happily in NC. I have however spoken to many of my new aquaintances around Kyrenia and mentioned Cyprus44 and most of the statements I hear are "I don't use it anymore, too many stupid arguments by people who don't even live here" or an approximation of that. "Too many idiots" is common also

I'm not sure what I wanted but through it I have found all of the following:

-a wonderful new friend-ClaireCat44

-a flat!

-a television -thanks again DaisyDukes!

-a job that I started today and think I am going to love!

-Loads of useful information from reading posts or kind members answering my questions!

-Met lots of lovely people (including the owners!) at the Guido's summer get together!

I have laughed at some posts and despaired at others but all in all thanks Cyprus44!!!!

I have just had a thought after reading another post that started off as a simple question and turned into a slagging match.

Would it be possible for the Moderators to be gaiven the ability to change the title of threads after they have started so the when one starts to become an obvious slagging match they could insert (ARGUMENT) or something like it at the beginning, like you do with stickies or events.

That way the people like myself who enjoy the humour of reading peoples abusive comments and sometimes joining in can see which is the best easily and those people who are looking for actual helpful information will know not to bother with the Argument threads.

Just an idea

I think 'Tootie' summed it all up in this brilliant accurate & hilarious post...love this one Tootie whoever you are!

I quote:

How many online forum group members does it take to change a lightbulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed.

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently.

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs.

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"...another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp".

15 know-it-alls who claim *they* were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct.

109 to post that this group is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb group

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

143 to say "do a Google search on light

Hello Peeps

Message 28 well said Butler, I also know some of the founder members of the board who helped many many people, things got sorted, things got sent, people helped each other but most were put off big style by the muppets ( with apologies to all the good folks) who joined at a later date, just wanting to stir up bad feeling because things were not to their liking.

Oxeners message 34 you said it

Some cant leave it alone it amazes me that over an 18 month period that some people post approximitely 4 posts a day, incredible really, it fits in well with a definition of a forum troll I read recently on the http://www.glencoecyprus.com forum it was a hoot you should read it, if I knew how to I would paste it on here but it is too long for me to copy lol

Not sure of the value of the forum. It has got itself a reputation now, "not for the faint hearted"..too many people seemingly with chips on their shoulders and a very sketchy knowlege of a particular subject willing to give a generally (I think) uninformed opinion and engage in bear baiting. I only post now when I see speculation outweighing fact on a subject I think I know something about, although I do scan it once a day just in case.

Also I think there are a lot of people deliberately "doing down" others, maybe because of business competition, or is it simply the nastiness that comes free with the present generation of under 60's to whom a debate is an excuse for a no-holds-barred verbal punchup?

I tend to agree with almost all you have said Tony except for the under 60's generation part. For the most part the disagreements I end up having are with the elder generation who I know I should respect but find it very difficult at times.

I am agreat believer in "Respect should be earned" and not "Respect your'e elders" especially with some of the members on here who seem unable to even respect other peoples right to a self opinion.

I tend to agree with TonyE too.

At times people over 60 are ridiculed for having an opinion of their own, I may be retired but I'm not ga ga yet and am still able to think for myself.

I think you missed my point Hattikins. I get frustrated with the over 60's who sometimes seem to inform everyone of their own opinion but get offended if you disagree with it.

Back to the original question, what I would like to see is a seperation of the forum so that there is 1 for the informative stuff ie Restaurants, builders, schools, walking routes, flights and general suggestions which includes praise for charities and such. And a 2nd forum for the argumentative subjects ie North/South, NC or UK, dogs live/dogs put down, paid TV/pirated TV and so many other things.

I have 2 friends who are strongly considering moving to NC and have asked me lots of information and 1 of the first things I tell them is cyprus44.com but I then say, "stay away from the Forum".

Ironic really isn't it that the place you would hope to find the best up to date information is also the place where potential newcomers would be scared off.

It is a fantastic site but it needs some fixes.

Also strongly agree with TonyE - some very good points made.

proger, I do agree with you that 'respect should be earned' and I also appreciate the fact that because certain people reach a 'certain' age, they seem to think that their opinions are worth more than others'.

I am just shy of 60, but, like Hattikins, I'm not loopy and I, too, am able to think for myself, so don't dismiss all of us 'older persons'. After all, 60 is the new 40

Mind you, glad I didn't look like this at 40!

My (shortened) wish list: more of this nonsense from people who do not even dare to give their name. Most posts in this thread - who is writing? Who is responsible for nonsense or abuse etc? Anonymous people on this board cannot be taken seriously whatever they write - because they are nobodies. They only exist in cyberspace and are non-existent again when they shut down their computer.

Jean/Hattikins, I would never presume to think that either of you had lost anything with age, the person I probably debate with the most on here is a very intellectual over 60's gentleman who debates very well but occasionaly sends the signal "How dare I disagree with him" and then I have to placate him by asking him to calm down as I was just debating and not to take me too seriously.

I would love to and have invited him to go for a casual drink so that he would be able to see my facial expressions and know when I am just playing but so far he has not RSVP'd.

I realise that, as I was informed many times at a younger age that I was too young to know but when I am old enough for this to stop.

A very wise man who I miss greatly once told me "Knowledge is like climbing a mountain, it takes a long way to get to the peak and unfortunately its all downhill after that, some people just fall" nothing to do with age !!!

RE msg 50, proger1: (...) I have 2 friends who are strongly considering moving to NC and have asked me lots of information and 1 of the first things I tell them is cyprus44.com but I then say, "stay away from the Forum". (...)

=> Sound advice (not) from someone who is a member for about five months. And also someone who wrote in msg 35: "and thanks to many of the members for their advice my family and I are now living happily in NC." Did you get special advice or do you think your friends can't Google this web site to find what they need (and what you obviously found)..?!

Here we go again DC.

What exactly is your problem. Don't you think 5 months of this is enough to realise that without visiting the place at least once before you read the scaremongering that goes on is a good idea.

And I said thanks to the many members who I have either met or e-mailed directly for information not read about it on the Forum.

You have been a member for a whole 18 months or longer if you have signed on again and yet again you think you know better because of time.

Thank you for proving the point I was making, I am not knowledgable because I haven't been around long enough.

What exactly have you done in life that qualifies you to be better than me Hans?

Let me guess, you are older and wiser. My point made

RE msg 56, proger1: What a lot of words to explain why you tell your friends to stay away from this board - where you obviously benefitted from.

You've managed to do it again DC, wound me up to the point where I have to get my word across again, I don't know how you are so good at it. My wife tells me to just stay away but then why should I.

So here we go, you are always very quick to fault others.

I said thanks to the members, not to the comments I have read on the Forum

Yes, I did get special advice because several people realise that anything you write on the forum is open to opposition purely for someones amusement.

I had already given them the cyprus44 web address, why would they then need to google it.

As was just written on another thread "Who made you cheif?"

I don't have to justify myself to you ar anyone else but I get so annoyed at the way you jump around the board criticizing people and their statements with a holier than though attitude

Hans, I'm here to be counted, no hiding these Kiwis! What does piss me off is 'on line members' when they are not on line! Just tried closing for twenty minutes, came back on and I'm still at the top! Wrong! I should be in last place where I belong!

Explain to me how I benefitted DC and I will agee that I wrote lots of words for nothing.

Find the posts that I started and have a look through the answers that were given, one after another was disagreed with or ignored. I got more confused than anything and ended up contacting people directly

This thread was started as what do you want from this board and you turned it into a slur against my comments about something I find fault with.

You write about people in anonymity on here and yet when you had a chance to talk to me face to face you didn't. I didn't recognise you because I had never seen a picture of you, my photo however was on here for all to see and yet as much as you seem to want to argue with me you stayed well away

Again you assume too much DC.

My first information about the site was from a colleague who lives there which gave me a head start for information on North Cyprus. The requested information I posted was just answered by confusion.

I admit that I have picked up lots of information from the site but not from the forum and most of the members I know I have met whilst in North Cyprus and then found out they are on the Forum and not the reverse as you assumed.

Without the Forum, I would not spend so much time argueing with a bigot such as you so here is some advice from me to you, when it comes to my posts, keep your opinion to yourself. That way I won't get wound up, I have tried several times to be nice but wghen it comes to you DC it is not in my blood.

I say lets have a truece, I will stay away from your posts and you stay away from mine unless of course either of us has something positive to add, or negative if that is the requirement of the question posed.

Agreed ???

Vicki - and so it goes on.........and on..............and on.

Proger - I have no 'beef' with DC whatsoever, BUT, I do have the same thing with others on this board. Like you, my husband, too, cannot understand why I get so wound up. But get wound up I do, and I have to put in my two-pennorth.

Might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb, but, like many others on here, the spelling (particularly of those who cannot even spell the place in which they live) drives me mad - BUT, I'm not allowed to say anything, because I have those who can't spell calling me a pedant (well, they would, if they could spell it)

I don't know what it is Jean, with anyone else it is like water off a duck's back but DC seems to hit the nerve endings every time but I have asked for a truce (thought I spelt it wrong, the first time) so I will leave it at that.

I was glad to see you got your name cleared on a previous post and got the apologies, well nearly.

I would never call you a pedant, mainly because I had never heard of it and just had to look up the meaning.

I spend half of my life correcting my wife and the non british people I work with on the English they use but only if the word or words they have used mean something different to what they meant and I do it in hope that they appreciate it is for their benefit not mine.

I do understand that some people (not directed at anyone) get frustrated that as an english speaking person I make common grammatical and spelling mistakes but as a one fingered speed typist, I am flawed and this is not an exam.

Any way what about free speech and artistic licence

Message 70 - Proger.

I know; it's very annoying - Christ - I annoy myself at times. Paul (my husband) is very intelligent, but I say to him 'let me have a look at that before you send it'. I don't mean specifically on here, but everything. I am a medical secretary and so I suppose I am a bit finicky. Also, the 'wandering apostophres' drive me mad.

Hans - thanks

More tolerance of difference and respect for others views.

More informed debate with less personal criticism.

More information on day to day living - how to get involved in local issues (what do retired people do with their time?)

More information regarding social events - classes - groups - opportunities to get involved and meet people, for example.

As a new member i joined the board to get good information but all i see is folks slagging off each an other, people posting what i consider c*ap to have a go at each other, when you get good posts they are ruined by one liners, whats the point

each of us has an opinion but there is no need to try and ram it down others throats with continual rants, many brave people on here behind there keyboards and many pompous asses who think they are something special, sorry you aint.

I wont get involved in it cos most of you have boring lives, I am currently serving but am concidering my options when i leave after doing 24 years for my country, but reading the tosh on here it is making me think !!

my opinion only

Agree with Hippo, for a moderator to remove title of a thread and insert the word ..closed.. therefore not allowing others to see the thread is unacceptable, and to close a very unoffensive thread after 1hr 18 mins because in their lofty opinion it served no purpose makes a mockery of a forum, when others such as..how to defrost a chicken are allowed to run and run.

Less moderation, unless it will cause the board to close. Not for any other reason. If it gets nasty, just delete the offending comment. Simples.

More characters like DC, mmmmm, UKTV, etc, who are great at keeping threads entertaining.

One point for DC, if this forum insisted on true identities, like the Bogaz board, it will be about as popular!

Many people know me, but have no idea I'm PC. We all live in a goldfish bowl, the less people know about me, the better. I do not want acquaintances know what I had for dinner, or whom I was with. There is just TOO much gossip going on.

I have not made any enemies on this board, or in real life (here). I came here for a quiet peaceful life. Not an argument.

We wanted Information, friendship, support. a forum to voice our legitimate complaints. A joy of life! Humour all the

things that a good forum should provide. A communuty spirit. Sorry......but it was a good question..... Hattiins.

Backbiting was what spoilt it all! Attack the protagonist not the valued supporter of the board.

Wyn

So sorry to hear of your loss, but look on the bright side my friend, you will be saving the cost of the residential unit, and extra security, a quite considerable sum I would think. You can deposit this into a TL account paying astronomical interest rates which will enable you not only to pay your electricity bill but may even leave a copper or two for the odd Efes.

Wynyard is a place of solace, but subject still to the laws of Westminster (whoever the unelected encumbent may be!)

The intellectually challenged (in England we call them The Dull and Ignorant) would not appreciate the nuances of living there.

Scotland for the Scots, I say, at least we keep our mass murderers locked up (or send them to Bury St Edmunds) where they

can do little harm! On Wynyard we live by the creed....In God we trust, all others pay cash. Honest straight forward living non

of this Scottish PFI nonesense.

wyn

Scottish PFI nonsense.

Why has my post been removed?

'Less of the nepotism that influences the moderators closing of threads. We have a choice whether to click on read or add without them playing holier than thou attitude.

No explanation , which of the board moderators found it touched a nerve?

Funny the post has come back again only now in the wrong place -the nerve must have been touched but conscience overrode it.

Now i wonder who it was?

What a pleasant change that was, a little useless, harmless banter, just one of the things I would like to see more of on this board, along with information, help and advice.

Apart from some frivolous, humorous, serious debates, the odd jokes, some 'leg pulling' which can get out of hand (guilty), I notice how few people actually say, "thank you" to posts with legitimate questions and answered in all factual sincerity. No accounting for manners!

I think your definition of harmless might differ slightly from mine Hattikins, I found myself reverting back to my more youthful days when I would have turned to violence at some points.

Harmless due to this being done over the internet maybe, I am pretty confident that many of the wars of attrition on these posts would be nowhere near so rampant if people were face to face.

I for one am as guilty as any other for trying to be sarcastic at times but when writing it may come out as maliscious intent, absolutely not the case but I have often reread my own posts and realised that if the person on the other end did not realise I was trying to be humourous they could and probably should be easily offended.

I think for safeties sake and for the national peace process I should always add that little smiley or a LOL even though they irritate me.

Good will to all men, and woman of course unless they have bad will for me then Nuke them all !!!

LOL LOL

Dutch, I know you never actually answered but I did request a truce, is the fact that your comments about goodwill and christmas being boring and the fact that they are 2 posts under mine just a coincedence or should I take it that you never agreed to the truce on purpose?

RE msg 136, proger1: Don't be ridiculous, proger1. Should I keep 15 posts or more between yours and mine? Call Izzet and hire your own closed thread.

I read your offer for a truce, but I didn't find it necessary to react - I still have some difficulties with the interpretation of Scottish humour... Well, I thought you could give and take, but maybe I'm mistaken. If that's the case I will mention your name in any post pro or con proger1 - if you're not mentioned it's not about you. OK?

RE msg 137, Wynyardman: (...) Could this just be what the silent majority, seek of this board? (...)

=> As obviously a member of the silent majority (usually Sun readers, who start their letters to the Editor with "I and many others...") you overestimate your importance once again. This board has grown and grown and has definitely not suffered from your absence. I find your one liners fascinating in its simplicity. Keep up the good work (omg).

Now I am ridiculous, Dutch you may have achieved a great many things but tact and diplomacy were never there, nor was covering your tracks.

I have just reread the whole post and can not see any other reference to christmas than my own.

As for if a post doesn't mention my name, don't be so Niave. It is the subject matter or the grammer that you target and wether you are trying to be funny or not you are offencive.

In your case you were mistaken, I have had as much of you as I can take, you couldn't just have said "No, that was not my intent", you had to find another slur to throw in there.

My way of sticking to the truce has been to avoid adding comments to anything you have posted unless they are positive or if required negative, try it you might find me to be much more passive.

Hans Msg 135

Christmas for you comes on the 6th of December and nothing 'general' about it; trying to figure out what you should write in your St Nicholas poem to me? Has to be original!
