Yes, reply to member about luggage allowance, I have just been sent e-tickets with no luggage allowance on them. I emailed stansted baa and they say its 20kg, but our hotel in Nth cyprus, The Ship, Tony tells us that it is 25kg. I cannot find a website that actually confirms either and cyprus turkish airlines dont seem to reply to my emails. Carol

hi carol welcome to the forum at the end of the day you should not really pay attention to what you hotel says to you (no offence to the ship) cos at the end of the day you are not flying with them and they are not the ones who will pay your excess baggage will they!!!! normally on kthy flights the allowance is 25kg and a max of 32kg anything over this they can turn it away or make you empty the suitcase, but in recent months i have heard from diffrent people that this has been reduced to 20kg and when my mother in law came to turkey using kthy her limit was 20kg but on the other hand friends who have travelled back to london with kthy their ticket stated 25kg so i personally think if you travel from cyprus or turkey to london its 25kg and if you travel from london to turkey or cyprus then its 20kg which to me is a bit silly but thinks its the way!!!! if you do travel from stansted dont worry to much on excess babgage as long as you dont go over the 32kg mark you wont get charged in all my years of travelling with kthy i have never been charged flying to and from stansted and seen turkish famlies travel with everything apart from the kitchen sink and not get charged warm regards ukturk

Taken from http://www.kthy.net under Passenger Services Bagagge Information Free luggage allowances and regulations; Passengers are obliged to ensure they do not carry luggage and baggage that does not belong to them. This is for security reasons. Please label your luggage and baggage with your first name, surname, address and telephone number. Do not register your luggage under anyone else’s name or you will not be compensated in the event of damage or loss. Try not to leave tags or labels from previous flights on your luggage and baggage. The baggage allowance in weight terms for flights to Turkey is 20 kg and to Europe 25kg. Students and soldiers can carry 25kg free. Infants between the ages of zero and two have no free baggage allowance. I read this to mean flights originating from Cyprus and going to Turkey (and return) 20kgs, and flights originating from Cyprus and going to Europe (and return presumably) 25kgs. Edmund

It doesn't seem to mentioned hand luggage allowance. I do know that with BA you can carry 25kg in the cabin so long as you are able to lift it into the over head lockers (wouldn't like to be underneath it in the event of it falling out!). Karen

The knitting needles, were they wooden or plastic? Your allowance with CTA before they can charge for excess: 25 Kg in the hold and 5 Kg in the cabin. The e-ticket should have a weight indication on it if not the agency has probably made an error in issuing it. Tom IAH Ltd

As you pass the gateway to enter security in STN they have a sheet on the desk to tell them the hand luggage allowance for airlines as they differ. Turkish is 9kg CTA is 7kg I think the 7kg is the official 5kg plus 30% (as they know everyone will go over), but they then allow a further 30% again in reality, found this out as I had to point out the correct airline to the 'jobsworth' that was trying to say I had to check in my laptop. Best way to travel overall though is with 2 young kids, one in push chair, liquids suddenly become no problem, neither does extra hand luggage, but let's be fair, when traveling with kids you do need a little extra.

Hi UKturk Just heard from kthy and they have emailed me to say luggage allowance 25kg, hand luggage 5kg, they finally replied after I said HELP ME in large letters, and this was kthy in UK. I am keeping the printout and will produce it if necessary at airport. Colleague was going to take 25kg anyway, so I probably would have as well, oh well who cares.

Hi Tom The knitting needles were plastic but whichever they were they could still cause an injury if you stabbed someone with them. Karen

Hi Carol, Basic security on an aircraft is not for the customers or cabin staff but for the pilots. So if they are plastic they cant be used to open the cockpit door. If you I or anyone gets hurt the plane can't be used as a bomb or the pilots threatened so that all the people in the cabin are at risk. tom
