Just had our car MOT'd. Even though it is a lot less than 3 years old, it's registration - JK, determined that it had to be done between 14th & 30th September (worth checking with a person in tax office, not the notice board). Having been through this process once with another car we knew to turn up with a clean car with clean number plates and rear mudflaps. We also had our log book and our last emission test so were confident that it would take no more than a few minutes. However, although the emission test was done within the last year that is no longer good enough. It has to be done immediately prior to the MOT now! Fortunately, TEM garage (Alpet) across the road from Astro did it for us in no time, great service and within 15 minutes we had our MOT certificate. Tem garage informed us that the rules have changed again and an emission test now lasts 3 years, same as the MOT. Until the rules change again....

We have just been through the same process having a two and a half year old car MOT'd. What a farce, and what a rip off.100 tl just to have a cursory check. Are mud flaps more important than brakes, steering etc? It is just another way to squeeze money out of us.

Emission test only lasts as long as the MOT for petrol vehicles! The MOT lasts as long as the turn around in registration numbers - note the JK registration that required it early but my ES registration was well over three years. In theory, the more new cars that hit the road then the longer the period will be between MOT's.

Emission test only lasts for one year on all deisel vehicles - not the same length of time as the MOT. Be sure and just cough up the 20TL a year for your new emission then when the rules have changed again you will still be ok.
