Also a reminder that is is the BRS blood donation day at Girne Hospital this Saturday 19th September.

If you can't make it go any week day to Lefkosa Hospital first building on the right as you go through the entrance and tell them you want to donate a unit of blood.

We also still need donors for the NC blood donors data base. So please e-mail your details to northcyprusblooddonors@gmail.com or fill in the form on-line at Lincguide.

Thank you

Gooligan,

I will have to check this out but I believe that now you can as long as it is more than 12 months since you had jaundice.

Nursie;

Didn't I hear that the ban on blood giving in the UK following a transfusion circa 1984 had been rescinded?

Scoop just checked the NHS guidelines and still the same. Actually the ban is not just in the UK but quite a few other countrys uphold this for anyone who has had a transfusion in the UK since 1980.

Gooligan Just checked with a nurse friend in Girne and she agrees no problems after infantial jaundice.

Re the Yellow Jaundice. For years I was told I could not give blood, cos Ihave Yellow Jaundice when I was 5. However as far back as the 1980's they changed the rules, and suddenly I could give blood. If you check, you will probably discover that if it was in childhood, you are now O.K. I was delighted that I could step in and give, as I had always said 'Oh but I had yellow jaundice, so I can't and I would if I could." So, as soon as I could, I did.

Just to encourage!
