Hi

Can anyone tell me what I need to be able to get a signal from the Thor Satelite that is 1 degree west ? I already have the receiver just need advice on the dish etc. Would anyone have a rough idea of the cost of having an approriate dish installed etc ?

Kind regards

Hi Jamie What channels - in particular do you wish to reliably receive?

for example, a 2.4m might be necessary to get the Scandinavian channels .. at least that's the case in Lima(s)sol

Hi Mark

Just the English ones, BBC World, Discovery etc. Plus any English ones I might be able to pay for.

Hi Jamie

looking at this link

http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/atlantic.html

Please tell me which packages you think have the English stuff..

I would have thought a similar / sl. smaller sized dish aimed at SKY would give you the channels you want ..

There are many Norwegians living in Limas(s)ol receiving the Norwegian channels on a 2.4m ( Vertical Polarity)

But what I STILL don't understand, is which English lang channels Jamie is hoping to get ? Many of these channels are in Swedish/ Finnish, Norwegian..etc

Can you please be specific as to the Eng lang channels you hoped to see, Jamie?..

As I said before.. if you are hoping to see Eng lang discovery, kids stuff, etc, you be better off getting SKY, and in HD,even) and a good, well installed 1.8m

Perhaps Nilesat may be a better option for free English Channels and its easy to get on a small dish.

Hi Mark

To be honest not sure what channels Im hoping to get, anything English would be a bonus, but sounds like from what you are saying I'm not likely to get anything on this sat. You kindly replied on another thread about my situation, am in an apartment with the dishes already pointing at satelites so really have my hands tied. Was just trying to find out what I might get as I really haven't a clue about all this sort of stuff.. Anything really that the kids can watch. Failing that I'll just bring them over a load of DVD's.

Thanks again.

Kind regards

Jamie

Hi Jamie

as Aussie says, you DO have Nilesat as one of your options - at your place .. one of the three feeds.. so you WILL get MBC2, MBC4, MBC Action, BBC News 24 , CNN, Euronews

I forget whether it is MBC 2 or 4 that carries most Kids, stuff

These channels are FREE - not encrypted

Take care !

mmmmmm,

You missed out Fox Series, Fox Movies, MBC3 (sometimes in 'foreign' ), MBC Max, MBC Persia, & 5 or 6 other English Language (mainly) News channels.

Also in the evenings, Dubai One, Saudi 2, and Kuwait CH2 show mainly English films with Arabic subtitles.

In General Interest there is Gear One, City 7 TV, CCTV9, Space Toon English, Fashion, MTV Arabia, Melody Hits, FATAFEAT (cooking, largely English) & a couple of others.

There are a few channels such as OTV, PSC, etc that occasionally show English Language Movies, and of course several Sports channels - admittedly in 'Foreign' , but if you can't understand the game without a commentator rabbiting on, you shouldn't be watching it!

ALL FREE TO AIR...

Hi KC re msg 11

Cheers me Dears.. I DID omit Fox , and MBC Max but excluded MBC3. Gear one, MBC Persia, et al as I was suggesting constant Eng lang channels.. !!

I recommend Nilesat as THE best 1m Dish option - no subscriptions, and even if you have SKY/ BBC it is GREAT to have .. I miss this satellite in the UK... I'd need a 1.8m and planning permission )

Usually at least 2 out of MBC stations 1-4 are in English at any given time and MBC 2 seems to mostly have a lot of movies as well.

I want to watch the Digi TV package (from Central Europe) in western Cyprus. I can see and open it in UK with a 90 cm dish but what size dish is necessary to get a reliable signal in the western end of Cyprus? The satellite is actually Intelsat 10-12 Spot 3:
