Brinsley I have replied on a number of occassions and met with to discuss this problem. The Branch have been warned via the Branch Manager to deal with your transactions with care and they are all aware of your claim that we "short change" you. Rather than posting it on here when you are short changed complain directly to the branch manager who will make sure you receive more than the change you are due when the exact coinage is not available.

Are you able to separate out your Turkish speaking clients from the English speaking ones? I ask this as I have received two text messages from your Bank in the last week both in Turkish which I do not understand. Good marketing!

RE msg 4, Brinsley: (...) Are you able to separate out your Turkish speaking clients from the English speaking ones? I ask this as I have received two text messages from your Bank in the last week both in Turkish which I do not understand. Good marketing! (...)

=> I agree, Richard. It must be easy, because TürkCell and I can do it... If CreditWest Bank cannot do it, then I may as well be deleted from their SMS-list.

=> Any idea yet what the messages were about? More interest..?

I think the text messages are notification of interest changes, I expect if the phone number is a TRNC one it is difficult to know what nationality the recipient is. I would think that staff in the bank would be happy to translate the message for you.

RE msg 6, hattikins: (...) I expect if the phone number is a TRNC one it is difficult to know what nationality the recipient is. (...)

=> Not true, hattikins. To send bulk text messages, like CreditWest did and does, first a list has to be made and maintained. New input or extracted from an existing database. Probably the latter - and then the nationality of the recipient is known. So CreditWest CAN send text messages in at least the two main languages in TRNC.

But before CreditWest starts modernizing the text message business, I wish the top-management gave some attention to the real meaning of their advertised "Internet banking". Am I the only one with this nr. 1 on a wish list?

The messages are to do with Loan offers we are currently promoting, we have asked that these messages not be text to ExPats but the telephone companies have been unable to provide such a service. Dutch Id be interested to hear how you did this with Turkcell so that I can pass the info on to the relevent people within the bank.

Dutch you are 100% right and Creditwest are working on the Internet Banking issue as we speak, I hesitate to give dates anymore because people who work in IT have a totally different calender and sense of urgency. I spoke with the man in charge of IT and he confirms that the last tests are being carried out and once they are happy it will be made available to all our customers.

RE msg 12, CreditWestRep: Until it's all sorted out with your text messages (I'll send you an email re: this subject) it would really help many of us when you'd post the Turkish message and the translation on this board.

RE: Internet banking issue: The usual phrase in IT is: "Coming soon...". Then all interested people know EXACTLY what is meant...

Credit west rep, I am currently with HSBC but am looking to change backs due to their rip off charged.

Can you please advise on the following:

Suppose I deposit a sum of cash in your bank, lets just say £5,000, will this incur charges? Are charges incurred if the money is in GBP or YTL? If so what are the charges?

Will I be able to transfer money into an account directly from the UK, with or without additional charges and if so what will these charges be?

What will the internet banking enable me to do?

Many thanks,

Chezzi

Creditwest has given their email address if you wished to ask the same questions.

On a personal level I am not sure that questions involving amounts of deposits should be asked/answered on a public forum.

CreditwestRep. We have exchanged emails in the past. It's good to hear that the long awaited, full internet banking service will shortly be available (I hope).

Is there any further news on an ATM at the Catalkoy branch?

On the subject of providing interest rates on the internet, I'd agree that this shouldn't be discussed on this board. Rates have been changing so much that any advice given now may soon be out of date.

If someone is moving to the TRNC next year, it is impossible to say what return can be expected on a certain level of deposit for that reason.

Finally on the subject of text messages in Turkish. It is true to say that I receive a message to tell me what my Turkcell monthly bill is & a confirmation of payment in English.

I also receive some other messages in English, but I receive many in Turkish too. Obviously Turkcell do have a problem with this.

contd.

I have no doubt that if I was a Turkish language speaker resident in the UK.

I would be unlikely to receive text messages from say Virgin or Vodaphone in Turkish?

Out of principle everyones financial standing is different so we try to refrain from giving examples that could change according to your deposit period and currency. Would you get a UK bank publishing this kind of information?

Credit West publish their interest rates on their web site, you just need a calculator to work out the rest.

No probs.

My suggestion was based on 2 things, firstly this is a public forum and a member may let other people in the public domain know how much money they have readily available to invest in a bank account a secondly it may depend on what type of account which you are looking to invest in ie 30, 60, 90 day etc.

It also pays to shop around.

This morning Credit West gave me the most convoluted ridiculous explanation on why credit payments in advance cannot be taken to pay utility bills. Banks must love to be awkward and just say no! On the upside, those with TL accounts may set up a DD facility without the 16TL admin/tax set up cost until December as this has been waived by Credit West however, no good for £ & $ account holders!

Exnavalperson,

I hope the details in your profile are correct and Creditwest Bank do take legal action against you for what I consider to be extremely irresponsible and libellous statement that you have made. Even if the details in your profile are not correct, you can be traced through your IP address. Let us see how Creditwest will handle this issue in a responsible manner.

I did not say that the creditwest was bankrupt, but the owners, TRNC certainly are and they have access to the money. Do NOT put your own interpretation on my remarks.

I am far too old to be worried about your remarks. If you think mine was libellous you are reading the wrong posts in the wrong way.

You state the owners of Credit West are bankrupt if so how are they allowed to remain as directors or owners of

the bank?

it would be a breach of the banking rules for that to happen .You also state that TRNC is bankrupt most countries operate beyond the means of a normal trading entity such as an individual or company and it is because they are countries that they are able to do so (see ford & GM for two).

Certain ex soviet countries had a collapse when the credit crunch hit

The fact that the Turkish Republic supports financially the TRNC is a matter of fact and a matter of comfort.

I think the word you chose was incorrect as neither party the owners or theTRNC have been declared or are bankrupt in the literal financial sense .

Though that term may apply to your usage of the English language "lacking in the ability to use the correct phrases words and terms "

Best stick to going up the "cut" on a row boat

Your clarification in msg. 39 does take the heat off your previous message. I would say it was an unfortunate expression that you used and leave it at that.

exnavelperson the Altınbaş family are one of the richest not only in the TRNC but Turkey so your claim is very unjust and liable, which leads me to believe you are poster from another bank trying to throw mud hoping it will stick? This is very underhanded and people can see right through these feable attempts to put a slur on one of the biggest TRNC banks or its owners.

What qualifications do you have to pass comment noting you said that the owners of CW were bankrupt

“Bankruptcy is a legally declared inability or impairment of ability of an individual or organization to pay itscreditors. Creditors may file a bankruptcy petition against a debtor("involuntary bankruptcy") in an effort to recoup a portion of what they are owed or initiate a restructuring. In the majority of cases, however, bankruptcy is initiated by the debtor (a "voluntary bankruptcy" that is filed by the insolvent individual or organization).”

You failed on that point for a starter elementary mistake

So why should anyone give credence to your financial assessments ?

Convince us of your superior knowledge in this field noting that the Banks can’t read accounts (Polly Peck)

I Refer to my main point government guarantee That’s all that counts so stop twittering on like Captain Pugwash

There was a programme regarding Pugwash and the characters I think it said Stains and Roger were things of myth & legend but did not happen >they have produced a new modern version but it was not the same

Exnavalperson You have the right to your opinion but if you cannot define "bankrupt" then you are not getting off the starting blocks

The service from Credit west is excellent and better that UK Banks I should know having been in the Banking industry for just short of 40 years

The strength of CW is the same as a UK bank that of the government guarantee not of the bank

If you cannot see this point I made earlier there is no hope for you to grasp the situation a bit like Cpt Pugwash

Well, this has to be a first for a bank. I needed to draw out 30$ from my dollar account but CW only had 50$ bills so they give me one and told me go to the Exchange shop near by, split it and return with the change! How trusting was that!
