Anyone using a slingbox to watch TV? I've just bought one and need to set it all up. I understand most of what its all about with just one question.

Can you watch different programmes through multiple laptops ie. if I want to watch say 101 and Rich wants to watch 401 would it allow this or say the person in the UK wanted to watch a different programme?

Cheers

Is the SlingBox connected to the Internet? Then you need the SlingPlayer on your PC or Mac and you can have only one connection at the time. First logging in is the winner... If you want to watch content on your TV set then you need a SlingCatcher also (wireless PC -> TV set). More (all) here: http://www.slingmedia.com/

We use the system in TRNC and it works great on the medium Nethouse Networks package.

Hans

Many thanks. Yes it will be connected to a router in the UK and plugged into a Skybox. Ours will be used in TRNC also. I've bought the Slingbox Pro. At the moment I'm on SunnyCyprus 750 but am not sure if the upload will be sufficient. Laptop has HDMI connection so I'm planning (hoping) to plug this into the television and stream that way.

What speeds are you getting with the medium package and what are their charges?

Thanks

Karen, I just renewed with Nethouse Networks (excellent service!) and this the information: 960 TL/year, 500 TL/6 months, 275 TL/3 months. 1024 Kbps (download), 256 Kbps (upload). This is sufficient for the SlingPlayer to work without problems. Although once in a while I noticed short delays or an interruption - but not longer than a couple of seconds.

Goodluck and enjoy (Eastenders..? . If you need more info while setting up, just let me know.

We can compare ISP-prices and the services they render, but not the quality of the connection, I think. It often depends on where you live. If you want to be sure: try a new ISP for a month - if they don't allow this, then I wouldn't risk them.

We are in Esentepe.

The connection is normally quite good with more up time than down and speeds used to be really good as I appeared to have a very low contention rate but over the past 12/18 months with more and more people having internet the speed is getting slower. In fact 18 months ago I had faster speeds in Cyprus than I did in UK. I could download a 6mb file with amazing speed but nowadays its got quite slow. I haven't done a trace for a while so maybe its time to start timing them again.

We have been using the Slingbox for about 2 years using an Extend 1024 connection. There can only be one connection at any one time but it is ok.

Thanks Zanky. It looks like I'll have to upgrade my connection. I think going down this route to get television appears safer than using the local systems which get blocked/scrambled.
